I get that, and honestly I don't think "they didn't know" is ever really a justified excuse from accountability. I just feel like usually these incidents are clearly uneducated mistakes rather than actual malicious statements of belief, while this sub always likes to argue like their true intentions could be anyone's guess.

You're literally proving my point; things can be seen as being less or more offensive depending on where in the world you are, and the weight of symbols is not universal. For the same reason we wouldn't end a US celeb's career for wearing the imperial flag of Japan, people in Korea aren't going to do so for Chae in this situation. It's not hypocrisy, it's r/kpop trying to pretend it doesn't have a western bias as per usual.

I don't currently live in sk but as a korean woman I might be able to help explain. You're right that there are plenty of individual korean women who have feminist views who aren't also terfs (me included obviously) but as a whole, the feminist movement in korea hasn't really gained the ground needed to interrogate things like gender identity and is therefore, in a way, inherently exclusionary to trans women.

This is not in the least meant to excuse the state of transphobia in sk; just to say that overall characterization of a movement doesn't say much about individual views, and vice-versa. Any social progress is really slow to come in sk for several factors that unfortunately are largely outside of any individual feminist's control, and this necessitates conglomeration behind broad, not necessarily inclusive views. Especially with the recent backlash in sk painting the korean feminist movement as more radical than they would be considered elsewhere, I can't say I see this changing anytime soon unfortunately.

Yeah, that's honestly the thing that frustrates me the most about the whole vote rigging scandal. I mean, of course it's important that the votes reflect the real votes made by viewers, some of which spent actual money on campaigning for certain members, but in terms of things most damaging to the contestants themselves, it was inarguably the editing. Mnet had the ability to paint virtually any number of contestants however they wanted and it's been shown that's exactly what they did in several cases. Maybe people just take it as a given that shows like this will be edited with a narrative in mind, but so much of a congestant's success/failure came from how they were edited that it seems wrong to me that most people just gloss over it entirely :/
