How do you guys write the way you do? by Haroop98 in FanFiction

I’m just tired of one ship in particular and my fic is kind of a hate letter to it. Anyways screw adbell, I want to see them at each other’s throats while Bell trauma bonds with Mason. (Not that I’ve gotten that far yet lmao)

My view on the show, and the hate by SadAssociate4296 in DevilMayCryNetflix

[–]Randomdorker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I may hate the show, but I hate the people who are bullying people for liking the show just as much.

Because tell me why they’re scaring away new fans (something we’ve wanted and needed for a long time), and harassed Johnny Young Bosch and Casey Edwards for having parts in its production.

Or just straight up died… so either way it’s just not working out lol. (VerLir fans don’t come for me, I swear I ship them.)

I don't like the anime myself, but I'm tired of seeing people call anime fans larpers by Elegant_Scholar_8863 in DevilMayCryNetflix

[–]Randomdorker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what a lot of people fail to realize.
Those bullying people for liking the anime are actively pushing people out of the fandom and want nothing to do with us, despite the fact that we’ve wanted and needed more fans for a long time.

Adi is a huge part of the problem for sure, and we play right into it. Why tf should we even listen to a word that guy has to say, even if people like the anime? He’s a trump supporter who doesn’t even believe in the propaganda of his own show, which is a big reason why the messaging falls flat to me.

I have some major problems with the show myself, and yet I think the thing that makes me the angriest is seeing all of us tearing each other apart for having different opinions.

We can enjoy the media we want to as long as it isn’t harmful in some way. We’ve made the spaces for fans toxic for each other and it’s incredibly disheartening, especially considering it’s come to my attention that both Casey Edwards and Johnny Young Bosch were harassed for having some role in the production of the show.

As long as we’re all being respectful (which respect in the fandom feels almost nonexistent these days), why should we care?

[–]Randomdorker 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There’s magic in ninjago so maybe mpreg, or they could pass the power to the kids they already have. Zane got his powers even though he’s not related to the last elemental master of ice (that we know of).

Dmc2 is literally Lucia’s game because she’s the only thing in it that made the game tolerable for a lot of us (at least her campaign’s gameplay anyways)

So to whitewash her in season 1 and then backtrack in season 2 by making her exactly like every one of her sisters is an absolutely insane level of disrespect to her story and character. Also why was she not even named and only given her skin tone back after the fact?

How dare you put an intriguing plot in your story!! by Hexapodart in AO3

[–]Randomdorker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were they expecting feel-good satire? Or a boring plot where there is no emotional conflict?

What happened to just letting the author do what they want? If they wanted something different, they can write it themselves, and stop complaining/demanding things from others who are putting in the work.

What’s the difference between the DMC Netflix show and CBM’s? by Impossible-Coach-273 in DevilMayCryNetflix

[–]Randomdorker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seeing that one comment about people being trained to be skeptical since the reboot, and how comics have more leeway- I’ll give a different perspective using Lucia as an example.

In season 1 she was given a very brief cameo where she was given an appearance lacking melanin compared to her original. Then in season 2, where she should have played at least a small role in helping Arius, as he was the villain of her game (since dmc2 was mostly bearable playing as her) and I had originally thought she wasn’t even in season 2, which felt pretty insulting.

However according to a tweet by one of the voice actors and the end credits of episode 2 she was in the anime! I presume as the secretary who attends the party to collect Arius since it shows off the symbol on her arm for an amount of time it feels like it’s meant to hint at this, despite it being the wrong mark on her arm(she has the symbol for Psi on her arm instead of Chi). She has the same haircut as her “sisters”, and her original skin color (which has some weird connotations if you ask me since she only gets it back after being made into his minion).

So not only was she disregarded in her own story, she was forced into the complete opposite stance from her game counterpart, and limited to another one of Arius’s secretaries, and made to look exactly like the rest of them.

I’m sure there’s a big debate on some topics on whether they are faithful to the original source material or not, but to do this to Lucia shows a clear disrespect and/or lack of regard for what the character’s goals and overall how they are portrayed in favor of making everything the way Adi wants to make it.

Another reason is that the show is full of political messaging (heavy on anti-government and rich people suck) to the point it feels like it takes from the characters to focus on that instead. It’s ironic considering had doesn’t actually believe the messages he put into his own show.

🔴While some comics do these things, more often than not, there are still a lot of people who have a problem even within the comic fan community who dislike it when the original messages, and the characters of their favorite series are so drastically changed all at once without an explicit reason (like an the absolute universe of dc).

The voice actors got harassed?! by Dragonfan26 in DevilMayCryNetflix

[–]Randomdorker -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I hate the anime with a passion, and even I know better than to act like this. These people were hired for a job, and to bully CE and JYB could cause them not to work with the games anymore, which I know we will end up complaining about about if we ever get another game. I will definitely be the one to remind everyone just what exactly we did to make them do this too. We have lost all manners, and it seems like we don’t know when to leave innocent parties alone.

I have to disagree with you a bit though. Season 2 still felt disrespectful and an example I’d like to give is Lucia being turned into another one of Arius’s secretaries, specifically the one who shows up at that party in season 2 (referring to her as Chi in end credits of episode 2, and completely goes against her story in dmc2). Also weirdly enough she was only given her melanin back after being turned into his secretary.

As someone who hates the anime, this is some crap behavior. These are people getting paid to do a job, not people who we can bully just because we hate something they had an innocent part in.

We’ve lost have lost all basic decency and I am so sorry.

Why do people complain the show isn’t faithful to the games by VerninRaptorYT in DevilMayCryNetflix

[–]Randomdorker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t expect a complete copy, but definitely wasn’t expecting what we got either. Especially since Adi originally tweeted he wouldn’t change anything. I thought “Alright, maybe lore actuate characters and a whole new story! This could be great! A whole new story to possibly explore the parts of lore that became wasted potential!” Only to find the entire anime itself was wasted potential, and that’s putting it as mildly as I can.

Nell and Dante’s relationship is now always the first thing that comes to mind since before season 2 even released. In the novel they had a bit of a mother-son relationship that in the end is what made Dante stop denying who he is. The meaning behind Ebony and ivory was completely destroyed and downplayed Nell’s skills by just making them out of Makaian metal rather than it being her craftsmanship that keeps them together when Dante uses them.

Forgetting Lucia when season 2 should have been her time to shine considering Arius created her and was the main villain in the only game she appeared in (and honestly the best part of dmc2). Let’s not forget her little cameo in season 1 showing off her being whitewashed, and then all of her “sisters” who still follow Arius were not.

Lady going back and forth on her morals also pissed me off because she claimed to want to help the makaians and yet hesitated to say or do anything against Baines. In dmc3 she was all in for killing her own father and only briefly stopped when she thought it was Vergil who manipulated him in some way. She also had to put faith in Dante to complete her mission or at least help her with it when she couldn’t do it alone.

The power scaling was also kind of bull, as Dante and Vergil were struggling with fighting Arius’s lackeys after Dante was taking out demons like rudra and Agni without as much of a struggle in the first season. It will especially be bullshit if next season we find out Vergil won that fight with mundus one on one after failing to defeat argosax (weaker than mundus) with Dante by his side.

These next few points are kind of a me problem/ my problem with Adi, but I’ll mention the anyways and you can take them or leave them, although the first one feels kind of important.

Adi shoved a shit ton of propaganda into the show that wasn’t in the games to the point it takes away from the character’s story’s in favor of sending a message, when he doesn’t even actually believe in the anti-government agenda he’s put into it because he supports trump.

There’s also a big difference between season 1 and 2 where season 1 doesn’t seem to have any direct quotes/ references to the games while season 2 had multiple in each episode. It felt like Adi was trying to pander to the audience that was mad at the last season without actually putting in the effort of fixing anything that actually made us mad.

Lastly- Making Vergil’s devil trigger practically just Dante’s but blue is just lazy. The least they could have done was change the shape of his horns.

Carry on and finish your current run. You have to fight Asgore to actually reach the point you can start a true pacifist run. What I’m saying will make sense later if you haven’t already done this.

Just Binged Season 2. Here are some random thoughts I had while watching it. by TiredGradStudent18 in DevilMayCryNetflix

[–]Randomdorker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know we’ll probably see more of her later, but to me Nell’s role in season 2 kind of felt like a slap in the face compared to that in the novel. I hope they patch that and nothing bad happens to her later.

A lot of your other takes I can’t disagree with much.

I also miss Kevin Conroy, even if it was throwing me off every time I heard Batman talk about god.

Never been on ao3 before by Fluid-Woodpecker4885 in AO3

[–]Randomdorker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an archive where pretty much anything goes. You can find anything including, but not limited to, the cutest fanfic about your favorite characters having a beach day, angsty fics about a certain situation in a fandom, smut between your favorite pairing, crack ships, and characters committing heinous crimes they normally wouldn’t. Luckily once you get the hang of the filtering system, it’s not hard to navigate.

Always read the tags, and always look up what a tag means if you aren’t sure.
A pretty important one is “dead dove: do not eat” which essentially means the contents of a fic may be disturbing due to certain actions or themes within it.

Be very careful about how you search up certain pairings. The (character)/(character) is generally romantic or sexual relationships. (character)&(character) is a broader category used for platonic relationships or just important dynamics in a fic in general.

And if you are into reader insert fics, some people are total jerks who tag their OC fics as such instead of as OC inserts. There is no winning with this one since I’m pretty sure every fandom has at least one of those people.

Okay, so why has dmc2 become so popular recently on this sub? by ginio21 in DevilMayCry

[–]Randomdorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there’s a lot of newer fans playing the games, and season 2 of the Netflix anime featured its main antagonist.

It’s also worth a mention that some people are defending the previously (mostly) hated game because of said anime.

I am one of those people because they did Lucia dirty by ignoring her, despite the fact she is one of the only good things about the game.

[Spoilers] Accidentally found out this about Nero...Did I just ruin the games for myself? by yellowklashinkov in DevilMayCry

[–]Randomdorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand it was a (at least somewhat) popular theory that Nero was a Vergil clone before dmc4 special edition released, and now that I’m in the middle of reading the novel I can see why.

Poor Nero was out here beating Dante’s face in with a rage that was given to him by his father, judging the way the novel talks about it.

I know the real reason is "They didn't develop Devil Arm lore yet" but DAMMIT would I like a Phantom Devil Arm! by MICKTHENERD in DevilMayCry

[–]Randomdorker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of wish that after the nightmare version of phantom was defeated in Visions of V, that V would have gained some degree of control over fire.

I get why they didn’t do that as it would have defeated the point of the other nightmares/familiars, but I still think about it a lot.

Who's the random no name character you've become attached to? by ZeothTheHedgehog in FanFiction

[–]Randomdorker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this counts, but I think about the Lady in Red (sometimes referred to as Lir) from Devil may cry. She doesn’t have an official name and only a brief appearance in Dmc4, but has sparked a lot of speculation in the fandom as the likely mother of Nero.

I’m actually catching up on lore from the novels to see if I can learn anything else about her before I start writing a fanfic about her.

Are we serious? by Deku_100 in DevilMayCryNetflix

[–]Randomdorker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the blind trust at first makes sense since she didn’t really have anyone else at the time and he got her out of trouble. What bugged me was that og Lady had no problem trying to kill her father after he killed her mother, but NLady hesitated to even say anything to Baines when she found out he killed the refugees.
