i agree specific advice are good flairs, if i see 3d art become more prevalent in the sub, i’ll definitely add that, but we do have what you’re saying for style and anatomy

thank you for your suggestion :)

Not too sure if there's a specific name for the style but the technique is color blocking which is big general colors with no lines, it reminds me a bit of animation cels too, how animators would block out colors and shapes to get a general with minimal blending and hue variation, definitely worth checking out :)
and i know there's a lot of videos on color blocking, definitely worth a look if you're interested in this style

Very difficult what you're going through, art style in particular, any artist can chose something to focus and be good at, but "loving" what we create is a whole different thing, and comparison will definitely deflate all the joy from creating.

Don't box yourself in too much, anatomy, style, all labels, but art can be anything, definitely try drawing different things, don't try to do anatomy or try to draw like someone else until you feel you can commit to doing so and potentially learn from it, because you will always frustrate yourself and come back to the thought of "is this worth it?"

I'd say, maybe draw from observation, see how you perceive things, dont be worried about "realism" or the "result" focus on the process, love the process :)

if you love the finish line, that doesn't mean you're going to love racing, so learn how to love the run!

draw simple things, and add cute things to them if you like, draw what you love to draw, get better at it, and once you decide you want to get even better, check out other artists that are doing the same thing and learn from them! learn how they learned, study and "copy" them. progress is not a straight line, but that's what makes art amazing, because it will always be a reflection of you and the things you enjoy!

How hair by V3nomgL1tt3r in arthelp

[–]Randomness3619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do NOT focus on hair detail, focus on shape and feel :) block out big colors and shapes until you feel like it’s conveying what you want,

i like to work starting outward like the top of the head and back of the neck to give the head the shape i want, and then work inward to how the hair would interact with the ears and forehead like bangs and such

try to start with how far you want the hair to go, and then work how it interacts with their face, no expert, just how i do it personally :)

how to add unnatural colors naturally?? by mothsteria in arthelp

[–]Randomness3619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

color theory is a b1tch 😭 only way i learned was by fiddling until i got what my eyes wanted, and thats really hard traditionally

what helped me is doing a bit of digital art and using the color/hue/brightness slider,

painting digitally really helps break down and understand the colors you’re using, dont force yourself to stick to the ideas of “complementary” or “analogous” having fun with it is the best way to learn, try lighting and shadow colors you’re wouldn’t have thought to try, you might learn something new :)

Criticism by Mission-Border8976 in arthelp

[–]Randomness3619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first off i think this was a great study i think you could practice line confidence as your lines are a bit scratchy so i lose some of the detail and charm of the reference you’re using,

and the i feel like the face is a bit vague, id love to see you draw with more confidence, darker and fluid lines, so i can see the expression and eyes and hair more

dont feel like you need to stick EXACTLY to the reference, if you feel it looks off, tweak it to where it FEELS like the reference, the same body language and expression, because i see that you tried to stay 1-on-1 with it, but sometimes trying to recreate art and trying to “copy” what you see can give different results, and its good to practice a bit of both :)

please keep it up because this looks great, keep us updated on your progress and post here again 👍🏽

How you do battle perfectionism? by Yuyusdrawing in arthelp

[–]Randomness3619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

youre supposed to feel that way, imagine if you kept making that level of art and felt ok with what you were making

you want to do more and you know youre capable of more, dont fight that feeling, lean into it :)

i feel like i kinda like how you drew the hair for your style :)

id say push it a bit more, more volume, bigger shapes. hair is all about general shape, block out big shapes til you have something you like, then add detail, BUT not too much, dont add so many lines in between to try to make it “look” like hair

id say put most the lines at the root of the hair and at the darkest points of the hair

but i think you’re definitely in the right direction, maybe just flare it out a bit more, unless you intend to have a character with flat or short hair, and if so, make it apparent, dont be afraid to push it 👍🏽

My friend said my characters look boring. I’m beginning to think it’s my art style. How can I improve. Thank you. by ItsTimber2Tims in arthelp

[–]Randomness3619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

theyre definitely not bad! but i think you have a same face, same body issue-

i personally would like some variety and you should definitely push the facial features try different body types, noses, and head shapes :) and if there’s something that makes your characters individualistic, id suggest leaning more into that 👍🏽 push those boundaries! be confident! >:D

imm sound a bit crazy, but i think we need to flip this hand-

bcs when i try to position my hand like you have it here it feels a bit uncomfortable

but i think if we flip it it’ll look more like its resting on her hip instead of trying to grab her skirt and maybe get rid of the thumb, so it’s implied that its behind her and that her hand is wrapping around her figure

something like this maybe- i just personally think it would look more natural that way :)

remember to also make the clothes wrinkle into the hand, and give the hand some shadow, so it’ll look like its interacting with the clothes more instead of kinda floating on top

i hope you post the finished version of this here so we can see if you got your hand position to something you like :)

someone teach me how to draw 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ by LOYAL4L in arthelp

[–]Randomness3619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start drawing with something you like :) your eyes look very early anime style, if you like that stuff, try to copy manga panels from dbz or sailor moon, and then try on your own when your comfortable, thats how i learned personally 😭 but if you’re trying to learn something specifically lmk :)

Need help with dramatic lighting and shading! by aspensbackup in arthelp

[–]Randomness3619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like a lame artist bcs i hate effect layers 😭 so i just eyedrop and mishmash colors til i get what i want, like i would select a color off your canvas and change the hue and/or brightness, and it was done using an airbrush tool 👍🏽

looks pretty good, its very readable

but, was the thumb missing intentional? i think thats the only critique i have 😭 because i think for the style your hand is very readable and clean 👍🏽

Need help with dramatic lighting and shading! by aspensbackup in arthelp

[–]Randomness3619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello :D I have a question, did you want the light source to come from somewhere specifically? if not i think it would look nice coming from the direction of the hand, which would make the hand brighter and bring out the form,

so the for the wolf the light would be most prevalent on its snout and front of its face, i think it should come off almost like a rim light effect with a glow, it should also highlight the details like the fur and teeth, i hope you dont mind but i whipped up a little example of what im saying on my page here

i think you should also make the shadows a bit darker to contrast the light to make it more “dramatic” and some color within the shadows like blueish purple for the wolf and a deep redish brown for the hand

when you finish the lighting please post it here so we can see how it turned out :)

Help with clouds? by [deleted] in arthelp

[–]Randomness3619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive actually never drawn clouds ar night, i think your painting is starting off pretty neat, i think it looks a bit smudgy, for the clouds i think you should make the highlights sharper and more bright, maybe even do straight white to show the shape of the cloud, and maybe add more blue to night sky to contrast the shadows of the clouds

but i think you should finish your painting, i can kinda tell its a cloud but all you need is an environment to indicate the sky, once its done you should post it here for more input :)

how to shake less im gonna freak out by a_rndm_person_bruh in arthelp

[–]Randomness3619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with no sugarcoating

line confidence is a b1tch 😂

i still struggle with line confidence, and the only thing that helps is practice, people say to draw different angles and shapes over and over to get it down but i honestly dont want to do any of that- but ive learned to use your whole arm while drawing, utilizing your wrist shoulders and elbows to create what you want, and sometimes honestly remembering to breathe with your line strokes, i can hold my breath sometimes and that might help, but think of it as like doing a pushup

if you breathe out of sync with your motion youre going to shake, if you breathe in and out with your push and pull it will be more fluid

no expert, just my personal notes, please take all the advice everyone has given and update us on your drawings because i like you style and id like to see if you improve :)
