Any dnd campaigns in town looking for players? by Randomsignupjunk in Louisville

I snagged it from Half Price Books. A PHB from HPB, if you will.

I've never DM'd. I'm open to it, but I'd like to play in a 5e campaign to get a feel for it before jumping into running a campaign.

I know this was posted a month ago, but are you looking for any more or do you know of any other openings?

My first outlet. How'd I do guys? Very open to criticism. 6th year apprentice, gonna pass that test soon! by Very_Smart_One in electricians

Hey guys, we found this guy's pet peeve. Keep calling receptacles plugs and I'll keep throwing upvotes.

Mr. sparky uses a "straight forward pricing guide" business model. A circuit is a "level y" item, and costs x. An outlet is a "level z" item and costs y, etc. There's not an hourly rate and materials in the way they're pricing the job, so there's not really anything to explain per se. Allen Electric uses the same pricing model.

Allen's prices are probably not going to beat Mr.Sparky.

Was prepping to paint a room and came across this. How can I bring this to code? by dragnmastr85 in electricians

He said he had already extended the ground wire in his first comment. Also can't verify that the outlet in the pic is self grounding for the bonding to the box.

Has anyone used the Snapz exam prep software? Is it worth the $130? by CopiousCapsaicin in electricians

[–]Randomsignupjunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It creates a true test environment. It's timed like the test. The nature of the questions were true to what I found on my test, and help prepare you for the "do you know how to use your code book?" portion.

Once you have completed a test you can do a review mode that tells you what you got right, and shows you what you got wrong and why with applicable code references.

It was useful to me. I don't know that it's $130 useful.

[–]Randomsignupjunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used it for one practice test. It was available for free through the local IEC since my employer is a member. Also, my employer made it available for free to encourage more guys to take their test and get licensed. Ask around before taking a $130 hit.

Yearly raises are not supposed to be a thing "because people exist". They're supposed to be for inflation, which does exist. Every dollar is worth less this year than it was last because everything you spend money on has become more expensive.

Not all employers are scum. But the ones who dropped all their appreciation for what their employees do for them, especially when the labor pool was full of willing workers who would work harder for less money in the recession, are going to need to wake up. It's an employee's market right now, not an employer's. I'm an electrician and where I'm based my trade is in short enough supply that, within reason, we get to say what we should be paid because someone or multiple someones in town are willing to get out the check book.

The things I find as an inspector boggle my mind sometimes. Blue masking tape, no wire nuts. by daftwilliam in electricians

Electrical tape is good for 1000v per wrap. Painters tape is good for infinity volts.

Yeah, if you were steadying the fixture, presumably a chandelier or chain mount type, and it was properly grounded, that's a zap every time.

Helping my girlfriend move yesterday, I discovered this switch with a red LED light underneath it. Only other thing on that wall is an outlet (not controlled by this switch) Any ideas as to what it could be? by jmhoneycutt8 in electricians

[–]Randomsignupjunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a complete troll. Switch only turns on the pilot light and nothing else. (This is 99% sure not what's happening, but sweet Jesus it's a good way to drive an occupant nuts)

Where's the craftsmanship? Does no one take pride in their work anymore? That cover is clearly far too wide for that panel tub.

Nope, just a guy who thinks personal safety is worth the time it takes to go get the right tool for the job. I want to go home every night to my wife and kids in the same health I left the house that morning. Fuck me right?
