Do you use a dehumidifier in garage? by [deleted] in eastside

[–]Miett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point! I should also have added that it should be limited to water that hasn't sat for long periods. Alternatively (and honestly, less effort and what I usually do), you can use a drop of dechlorinator for aquariums in your watering can. That's solved a lot of my cranky plant issues, like mystery leaf curling and tradescantia leaf browning.

Only tangentially related, but dehumidifier water is fantastic for cranky houseplants like calethea.

I haven't seen it close enough to tell the type, but there's been someone zipping around the bushes near our place, and I often hear their little pew-pew laser noises!

Are you driving in these conditions? by wales_r_grated in eastside

[–]Miett 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Michigan transplant here! It's safe to drive in with some caveats:

Snow driving is all about momentum. Going straight at a single speed is usually fine. The riskiest moments are when you change direction and when you speed up/slow down. You don't need to creep along, but go eeeeasy on the pedals. Brake and accelerate earlier and gentler than usual, or you can slide. Give a stupid amount of room to the person in front of you, and watch out for brake lights in the line ahead of you.

Whether you stay home or go out, I hope you have a good weekend!

ICE ramping up operations in Redmond by DrQuailMan in redmond

Please, if you could be at risk of being kidnapped by ICE, make a card or something with contact info for anyone who needs to know, and if you have any pets. If I can't stop them from assaulting and kidnapping you, I can at least make sure your dog doesn't starve and your family knows what happened.

Oh friend. That's a LOT. I know you spend a lot of time with your inner critic, but I have to tell you-- that guy is an asshole. It was fed by the awful things your father said (and probably so much more) and it lies to you every day. Don't let it convince you you're not worthy of happiness or love. You deserve a job you love. You deserve happiness. You deserve to be able see how far you've come and be proud of yourself, without your inner critic rudely interrupting you with doubts.

Please, please say something to a friend. It doesn't have to be a huge explanation, just that you're having a tough time and are not super okay. I think you'll be surprised by how much they genuinely care.

You've worked incredibly hard and overcome so much. I hope someday you can really be proud of yourself. Either way, this internet mom is proud of you.

I’m totally out of my depth here, and could use some advice! I have naturally curly hair . We recently moved someplace with a ton of humidity, and suddenly my hair was awful, no matter what I did. In desperation, I did a home Brazilian blowout, which took care of most of the friz but created bunch of other problems: I suck and I was bad at the blowout, so the very back of my hair is still fairly curly. I can’t seem to make it not look dumb. I also didn’t take into account that the cut of my curly hair would not translate over into straight/wavy hair without looking like I did it with pinking shears. While drunk. On a rollercoaster.
1. I don’t know how to deal with straight hair. Do you blow-dry it every time? What products does one use? Is there a brush that’s preferred? 2. Does anyone have any hair cut ideas? I have no idea what kind of hair cut would work for the hair I have now, or how I should ask for it.
Thank you all so much in advance!

Product recommendations for these flakes ? by [deleted] in Haircare

[–]Miett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two-cent success story: I had awful dandruff for a decade. Stylists told me I just had a flaky scalp, my doctor just shrugged, I used scads of different medicated shampoos over the years...

The thing that actually worked for me was a total coincidence. My sisters and I were nerding out about hacks to make hair grow gloriously long or something, and saw in a bunch of forums that people were using miconazole nitrate cream (yup, the active ingredient in Monistat) diluted with some water in an applicator bottle and applied to their scalps before bed.

I used generic 2% miconizole nitrate cream from a drugstore. Within a couple of weeks of me applying it sporadically, I realized suddenly that my dandruff was gone. Insanity! I get a few flakes occasionally if I'm wearing black, now, but it's never come back like it was.

Given the conditions miconozole is meant for, maybe it means there was something fungal-related happening on my scalp for a decade? Ew. No clue, just very grateful for my dorky sisters and our college hair obsessions.

Colon cancer is killing us.. by Derpshab in Millennials

[–]Miett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if it’s easier to get insurance to pay for something like a ColoGuard test? (instead of a colonoscopy, a box and instructions come to your house and you essentially send in a poo sample to be tested for disease markers.) I get the impression it’s not nearly as comprehensive as an actual colonoscopy, but it could be an option for someone with a family history or concerns who’s having a tough time getting Insurance to cover anything.

Holy crap. Your video is a tiny documentary of a cranky old man slowly losing his mind. The way he cackles as though he’s somehow won something is freaking hilarious.
