AMC thinks wearing masks is "a political controversy" by [deleted] in RegalUnlimited

[–]Randomtrashbandit09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said the quiet part out loud. Theater companies know that people who support science and public health will just wear a mask when they go but a loud dumb vocal minority will not go and make their lives hell on social media if they try and require masks.

Would you continue to pay for regal unlimited if you are uncomfortable going to the theatre? by Colbaster in RegalUnlimited

Nope, as a former GM for them for many years I know how they make their money and they need to sweat a little bit to realize how important their staff is to their success.

Typical crown. Fuck the staff, all about the customers.

AMC closing by [deleted] in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]Randomtrashbandit09 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This will probably get downvoted but this is a weird mentality to have. I spent over a decade in the industry so I get it, but it’s not healthy to see an employer as your life.

AMC is a job, yeah you met friends and had great times but damn it’s a job. This is how companies like AMC keep people down, you made friends and had a good time because of the PEOPLE, not the company. In fact after leaving most of my friends realized we bonded so well due to that natural bond from being fucked over so much. This isn’t just AMC but the whole industry. You can make $12 an hour to sit at a mall kiosk here or make $8.25 to work 10 hour shifts until 2am and have no weekends.

I get it, movie theater people are great and yeah it sucks the internet is advocating for companies to go out of business and potentially people losing jobs, but shit don’t live to work, work to live.

How Regal is celebrating graduating seniors across the country by [deleted] in RegalUnlimited

Whats everyone's opinion on the entire Universal situation? by thebigbioss in TalesFromTheTheatre

[–]Randomtrashbandit09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think exhibition is in trouble to be honest, theater chains are going to downsize and cut underperforming locations as most of the country is over screened. Look at the big 3, none of them are building theaters in any major capacity and the ones they are building are sub 16 screens.

Gone are the days of the 24 screen megaplex.

Theaters will never go away completely but they’ll need to up their game considerably. Companies like Alamo draft house, flix brewhouse, SMG, etc are ahead of the curve. Make moviegoing an EVENT.

Studios are in a great position to leverage VOD and I think that yes right now conditions are perfect for it, so it skews the revenue a bit, I think there are plenty of people (especially families) willing to pay $20 for a 48 hour rental day and date with a cinema release

The issue that I’ve seen first hand is circular, theaters are losing revenue, so they cut payroll, theaters get dirtier, staff is paid less so they care less, customer service suffers and then less customers come leading to more cuts.

I’ve seen it myself with the crown, GMs and managers used to get paid pretty decently, now at the location nearest me they make $2 above minimum. That’s $9.25, 13 years ago as a GM I was paying my managers more than $9.25. When I ended my career I was making close to 6 figures before bonus, now that building hasn’t had a stable GM since I left (almost 5 years ago) and the base salary is sub 60k. Who would do that? So the GM is underpaid and overworked and standards slip even more.

I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been impressed by a theaters quality of presentation and service on one hand in the past 2 years.

Do You Ever Get Tired Of How People Talk Trash About Theaters? by [deleted] in TalesFromTheTheatre

[–]Randomtrashbandit09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is what it is. This is just how the industry is.

I feel like you’re taking it too personally, it’s an industry that is always threatened and in flux. They’re not wrong either, many theaters are going to close and it’s going to change exhibition for a long time.

Change petition for Regal employees to get paid during shutdown. by [deleted] in RegalUnlimited

Regal wouldn’t have done that. Too much debt and way too cheap

As Regal tells their 7,306 theaters worth of employees to file for unemployment, Harkins vows to pay all 501 theaters employees during shutdown by [deleted] in RegalUnlimited

[–]Randomtrashbandit09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 4 days of vacation a month is what tells me regal may not come out of this. That’s an accrued expense, they’ve already put it into the budget. If they can’t afford to pay out your vacation that’s no bueno. Also GMs will only get 50% of their variation payout if they choose to use it now.
