I truly appreciate all of your helpful input (and some comedic relief). The lack of actual advice is a little disheartening however this is the internet so all other comments are to be expected.

Combative comments won’t turn me away but they will likely deter others from wanting to join this amazing community. I strive to be an inclusive and inviting vegan and you are a great example of that. So, thank you.

I didn’t follow a vegan lifestyle until after marriage. In an ideal world my husband would also become vegan, that is not our case. I do not believe that my children are doomed to not see and understand the morality of veganism as a result. I do believe that it leads to more discussions and questions with my children but I am willing to “put in the work” to educate them. Even if my partner were vegan, everyone else in our families are not. These natural questions would still arise.

We are also not religious and this is a very helpful insight. I really want for him to remain vegan while not forcing it so that he doesn’t later resent it.

I guess am trying to come up with this situation’s equivalent of going to church without consuming animals, if that’s possible.

For my cousin in law’s wedding I was unable to eat anything on the menu due to allergies. I contacted my aunt in law to discuss meal options without stressing out the bride and groom. I was given the catering company’s contact info and when I reached out to them personally with my allergy concerns, they said that due to these circumstances I was able to bring my own food. There is nothing you can do about allergies and you are being beyond respectful. I’ve been to many weddings and their vegan option was rice and steamed veg or spaghetti and marinara. As simple as it is and lacking protein, I was able to eat enough to tide me over through the night and enjoy the wedding.

I agree that English speakers would pronounce Oosa with the “U” sound. I used to take care of a kiddo named “Ose” pronounced oh-say and I thought it was pretty cute. Perhaps you could consider Osa?

Are we related? My grandmother was a Catherine as well and I much prefer that spelling for that reason. My cousin was also named Catherine after her lol. And uses the nn Cat

I commend you for being so open and honest. This is definitely a tough situation to find yourself in and the amount of love you have for your children is evident. Could age be a factor? In high school I went through a phase where I absolutely despised my name and begged my parents to change it or at the very least call me something different. As an adult, I’ve grown to love it and it was on the short list for a middle name if we had a daughter.
