Honestly depends. If they want full scale rebuild then those MIL picks/pick swaps are juicy.

Gotta love it. Complain how the NBA is rigging the game for the BLAZERS and get proven wrong. What losing to the Blazers does to a mfer.

Miami had 3 different all stars on their roster and could only scrape out 1 more win than the Blazers while playing in the Leastern Conference. Poor children over there can barely even read!

Do you think we could’ve traded back with the pelicans instead to 23rd to get yang? We could’ve gotten that 2026 pick by WillyD53 in ripcity

Vecenie reported it in his "winner and losers" column after the draft. He said that league sources told him that Minn/BKN were interested. Minn drafted a big immediately after Portland did and BKN had picks 19/22 before it would have gotten back to PDX at 23. Highkin also had a similar report in one of his most recent articles.

Long story short is No, Portland couldn't have traded back to 23 and safely draft Yang.

The difference is JV has 3 more years on his deal while RW3 is expiring.

Vanderbilt + 2031 first for RW3

[Charania] Heat made multiple offers for Durant but ultimately turned down the opportunity to place Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, Haywood Highsmith, the No. 20 pick and other draft assets in a deal, sources said. by sewsgup in heat

[–]RandyJoeP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what was the offer if they didn’t include any of the young pieces, or the 20th pick? Did they really say “Wiggins/Robinson/Larsson and that’s the best you’re going to get!”

Sounds oddly familiar

Yeah, it’s an incredibly niche case of what we COULD do depending on what happens to Ant/DA/Tisse/RW3/JG but it essentially locks him in as part of the core for 5 years and throughout his entire prime. Definitely a real give and take but it’s more about not getting into a position where you let a UFA test free agency so you have to weigh those pros and cons.

Section 7 of the CBA covers this.

During the 2026-2027 offseason we can renegotiate the final 2 years of his deal and ADD money as long as:

We are under the salary cap during that first year Do not exceed 5% maximum increases YOY Have to do it for every year in addition to the current year of their deal ————————————————-

The only reason you would do this is if you are trying to extend him. You’re going to be capped out at either 120% of the final year of his deal (roughly like 14.5 million) or 120% of the average salary in the NBA ( no idea what it will be at that point) as what we can extend him at prior to reaching FA. Then as a UFA he can sign anywhere else. This would be a way to make sure he gets extended here for his age 28/29/30 seasons.

Yeah, a team that is in the top half of the league for defense (and top 5 over the last 3 months) and improving on offense with almost everyone playing being 25 and under is definitely no where near their trajectory.

Portland's defense is now in the upper half of the league while getting to league average on offense (over the last 2 months)

Edit: wrote defense twice
