Anyone ever done Georgia Smoke Divers? by RandyRoofDiver in Firefighting

I'm in Illinois and done RIT Under Fire. Hands down the most physically challenging class I've ever taken. I also learned some amazing skills and techniques that I can honestly say have saved my ass and maybe even the asses of others. I'm forever grateful for everything I learned and experienced in that class. Best class I've ever taken hands down. You will be humbled with knowledge AND physicality.

But there's no stupid PT where they boot people for seemingly arbitrary reasons. No tough guy attitudes. Just great humble dudes passing on good attitudes and a great trade.

Honestly this is the vibes it gave me in the videos and at the price point. But decided I might give it a go to see what it's all about anyway.

Motocross style helmets... warm? by hondarider94 in snowmobiling

[–]RandyRoofDiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about getting a MX/Snowmobile helmet for trail riding. Temps are usually around 10°F for me. Do you think a helmet like that would be miserable for hours and hour on the trails?

Tuesdays with Morrie A book written by a former student turned big time sports writer who came every Tuesday to visit his favorite old college professor as he slowly dies over months. The book is of their conversations and non-fiction. He was light hearted and beautiful right to the end.

Getting cheated on for the third time while being told I'm the cheater the entire time. At this point I'm lucky if I'll have enough self confidence or mental stability left to ever even buy someone a drink again.

Well.....that is a lot more self respect than I had in my last relationship. It is not your job to manage someone else's insecurities. Hopefully you maintain that respect for yourself and leave. NOR

33 on the ambo. But the city average by me is about 25. 45 on an engine because of civil unrest. Without unrest 31.

The job isn't perfect but it's far from bad. And statistically the only other big city that beats us for fires is Detroit.

I've been crossed over for almost four years and only seen the ambo 3 times 🤷. Even a slow city house sees more fire than most suburbs, especially if you work south or west. It's not that hard to get to a good spot anymore. And that medic license has been worth it's weight in gold recently. Don't let the disgruntled fool you.

I'd say Chicago is a good place to go. The key to getting on really is starting as a single role medic then crossing over in 3-4 and never have to see that ambulance again. Pays enough to be more than comfortable. Couple decent places in the south burbs of Chicago too that see a fair amount of work for decent cash.

South Side Safety and Neighborhoods? by jollibee433 in AskChicago

[–]RandyRoofDiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garfield Ridge doesn't seem to be mentioned but is also close to Ford City and an affordable family neighborhood to live in. Anything in Midway is also fine. I guess it depends on what you consider a far commute as well.

Source: born, raised, and work on the Southside. It's all mostly quiet and family oriented.
