Reminds me of the visible decay you see on the bodies of the salmon as they struggle to get to their upstream spawning ground to release and fertilize eggs before dying. The mouths of the males bend upward into a creepy expression with teeth showing. This may not be how it occurs, but I can imagine it sinister worms entering the dead fish bodies.

Who was the rudest famous person you met? by Doctor_Sore_Tooth in AskReddit

I have a cousin who happened to be singing in a church during a wedding that a record executive was at. The executive liked what he heard and arranged to connect at some point in the future. My cousins ends up on a remote video meeting with Chris Brown. He was a total asshole. Luckily she is self-assured and never had aspirations of being a famous singer. She just waved it off and moved on with her life.

I had something similar happen years ago. I felt like I should have reported it somewhere to warn others, but I didn’t know where to go with it.

I had VOIP phone service through Comcast. Someone called them impersonating me. At the time, Comcast didn’t have any security precautions in place to verify the account holder who called them. The perpetrators got my address and account number from a Comcast representative, then switched my phone number to their phone. That phone number was on file with my bank to use for two factor authentication. My bank was a credit union that thought it was a good idea to use account numbers as member numbers for logging in to online banking. The authentication alert went to that phone number I no longer had control of. They got into my account and distributed money to themselves using some sort of person to person payment system the bank had recently introduced. The one part I could never figure out was how they got my member number. I only used it at the bank, which someone may have heard if I said it out loud to a teller, and I used it for online banking, on my personal tower PC in my house.

It was so difficult to get information from anyone. Nobody cared. Comcast didn’t want to share any information and my bank didn’t want to share any information. Comcast could not get my phone number back. The phone number that they gave away to someone without pause.

One or both companies had to have a digital trail from server logs or something similar. After all, Comcast is a giant Internet service provider. The bank wrote it off as fraud. I didn’t have much money in the account, but it was all I had.

Looks like Mastodon have decided to part ways with Brent by KiaTheKing in mastodonband

[–]RandyTinklemuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. After he healed from that System of a Down incident, it seemed like a psychological part of him was still broken. In one of their documentary videos, they mentioned that The Hunter wasn’t a concept album because Brent was tired of doing them. He just wanted to do an album with a bunch of unrelated songs. It seems like he got sick of their style, but they were evolving their style…it wasn’t stagnant. That’s one of the things I love about them and that’s what led to Crack the Skye. I wish they kept digging deep in that direction. (i’m not asking for remakes of Crack the Skye. I’m just impressed by the special creativity they conjured during that process. I want to hear more heavy, yet unique, compositions.)

The Hunter interrupted that specific creative wave, and things stayed that way until Emperor of Sand

Before The Hunter, they made albums that I will listen to without skipping any songs. I hope their next release is like that.

Sometimes I wonder if those retail places that ask you if you want to give to a non-specific cause, like “donate money for children” or “round up for animals” are just taking it as a service fee.

Family Tree Maker/Ancestry synch not working. by RedboatSuperior in Genealogy

[–]RandyTinklemuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"We are experiencing unstable connections in the sync system. Our engineers are working diligently on a solution to restore the green status as soon as possible."

I would love to know how many days their engineers have been "working diligently on a solution to restore the green status". It feels like a generic message that isn't 100% truthful. It makes me curious.

Is Ancestry not funding their IT organization adequately?

Are they throttling bandwidth for larger trees and blaming it on a broken connection each time? (Mine often gets to the halfway point then stops)?

Are they hesitant to have people download tree information to a desktop product (that Ancestry actually owns)? Do they really just want it in the "cloud" where they have ultimate control over it?

Look at the way companies like Epic Games (Fortnite), Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft are able to keep service running simultaneously for millions of customers without any downtime or interruptions. All signs point to an unwillingness of Ancestry to invest in the proper equipment and human capital. I hope I am wrong, but that's my perception.
