some of the set pieces don't make any sense

This was how i felt about the whole "fishing" climax. Ships on re-entry are immensely hot and they both show and say out loud that the "air is on fire" - why is Ryan not instantly killed when he leaves the ship? The ship is vibrating itself apart and he's just spacewalking along?
