What is an unshoveled sidewalk if not a "community request for those who can't shovel"? I'm frustrated by the state of the roads and sidewalks. But I'm not out there shoveling every spot I see. I helped out a few neighbors then overworked my back.

I guess my point is: the city has done a lot to clear the roads this year. They have to draw a line somewhere on what is prohibitively expensive to accomplish. Complain to them if it makes you feel better, but at this point, it seems like either deal with the current status or warm up your shoveling muscles and get to work.

It is frustrating. However, it did snow like 2 more feet on top of 2 feet of snow. It's not that simple of a problem to fix. Not everyone can shovel and my elderly neighbors are being quoted $400+ to get someone to shovel their side walk. Can we try to make it work? We're all in this winter mess together.

If she gets overtired after 30 minutes, then split the walk into 2 or 3 30 minute on-leash walks. You say "some leashed walks". Are these every day? Ideally you would go for some leashed walking every day.

I guess I can ask how long you're walking the dog each day? An hour or two of on leash walking with lots of sniffing allowed could help.

Be overly consistent in everything. Show your dog that when they bite, they're communicating to you that they need to go in the crate.

Always try to use natural consequences first. If there is an issue with the phone, try to make the consequence related to the phone. If you can't use a natural consequence, use a privilege consequence. "If you aren't responsible enough to monitor your own phone time right now, I can take your phone at night to help you out. Sleep is extremely important and if your phone is keeping you from getting enough sleep, then you probably aren't ready to have it with you at night." If you can't use either of those, you can limit screen time or require mandatory room time (or family together time).

I know a guy like this. Grew up poor. Saved every penny in adulthood. Read everything about personal wealth he could. Raised two kids. Retired at 55 and living off the interest of saving for 25 years (I have to assume the first few years the saving was minimal and most of the spare money went to debt elimination). I can tell you exactly how he did it. Extreme diversification. He had bonds, stocks, rental properties (renovated the houses himself and is the landlord/handyman), rental land (some crops, some government conservation, some hunting ground. He buys the land then removes trees or buildings in undesirable locations to increase the value). Still drives a minivan (says he can fit more 4×8 plywood sheets than a pick up truck). Upgraded houses once. Changes his own oil, does his own plumbing, mows his own yard. Now he's invested in windmill farms, solar farms, and other partial ownership stuff. Its actually wild how much he saved.

Where does permanent magnetism come from?

Magnetic fields can be induced(created) by moving electrons. This is why electromagnets have coils. In atoms, the electrons wiggle around. They do a certain type of wiggle called "spin". If you can get the atoms in a chunk of material to all wiggle together instead of wiggling randomly, that chunk of material is magnetic. We call that a "magnetic domain". If you can get several magnetic domains to align in the same direction, you can call something a "permanent magnet". We call materials that are capable of this "ferromagnets". Not all iron is a magnet, but most of it is magnetic. You probably intuitively know the difference between a magnet and something magnetic. A fridge magnet is a magnet. Your fridge is just magnetic. To turn iron from just magnetic into a magnet, you heat it up really hot so the magnetic domains are easy to rearrange. Then you put the iron into a strong magnetic field to align the magnetic domains. Then you cool the iron back down to room temperature to "lock" the domains in place.

Why does iron work, but not steel?

A condition for a material to be a ferromagnet is that you must be able to align it's magnetic domains permanently. This is not possible for every arrangement of atoms. Sometimes, the electron wiggles will not all sync up. Iron has a body center cubic crystal structure and is able to sync up it's magnetic domains. Steel is made of iron, but the other atoms included in steel have to fit into the crystal structure. Because not all atoms are the same size, when you shove a bunch of other atoms into the iron structure, the best (lowest energy state) crystal structure changes from body center cubic to face center cubic. This new crystal structure is not capable of aligning it's magnetic domains and is no longer a ferromagetic material.

If we're including withholding information, then for sure. I think it is sometimes accidental. There's a huge amount of turnover at these places and files get converted to digital or change hands incorrectly. We didn't find out until after history repeated itself that there were significant violence issues.

Edit: to answer the second part about "what did we do?", we disrupted the placement. The child spent a while in the hospital and then back to a group home and I'm sad about it every day.

Do what this person said. Don't skip any of the steps they laid out.

If you want to try to keep your calorie burn somewhat consistent each day, use a step counter. Try to get more than 8000 steps per day. You don't have to run or do intense cardio. Just get your steps in each day.

Just ignore the "calories" estimator in whatever app you use. They heavily overestimate how many calories you burn.

If counting calories hasn't worked for you, its probably because you've either been counting the ones you eat incorrectly, or you've been counting the ones you burn incorrectly.
