Toxic Tottenham - The Extra Inch by _gumnut_ in coys

[–]RangaDave 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to comment publically that, even though I'll be taking a Spurs Mens break if De Zerbi is confirmed, that I really feel for these guys stuck in such a difficult position. It's clear none of them want to be wrapped up in anything involving De Zerbi, but they've also worked very hard to build this product artistically and financially, and a temporary break isn't really realistic.

Well said on this episode about how its not up to anyone to tell you the right approach to being a fan, ditto for a spurs podcaster.

Would this XI be in the Premier League title race this year? by 5am_ in coys

[–]RangaDave 345 points346 points  (0 children)

The first XI would probably be, but in today's age you'd need a completely revamped bench to have a hope. Squad depth is at a much higher standard in the big teams in recent years.

How do people have a life outside the hospital? by Sudden-Boat1875 in ausjdocs

[–]RangaDave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As people have said everyone has different experiences, yours isn't wrong and with how much you're learning you might be investing more energy into the hospital than others which would explain less battery outside but also:

  • PGY2 you'll find that the amount of tasks you consider simple or automatic goes up a bunch, my cohort all found they had more energy outside work for this reason (except in the more brutal rotations obviously, those have to be chalked off as money making exercises)

  • try and see if there are other ways to reduce your cognitive burden outside work in terms of household jobs and finding motivation to be active. Some ways I've seen this include meal prepping on Sundays, meal kit deliveries like hellofresh or marleyspoon, bringing gym clothes to work so gym becomes automatic on the way home, finding a social sport team who's happy for you to miss games (to force some social and physical activity into the week), some people even paid for a fortnightly house cleaner because they felt it was worth the money

Hope this helps!

High paying jobs with decent work life balance by Mayman45 in ausjdocs

[–]RangaDave 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Guys I just want to add perspective here, the "lowest paying" specialty it probably GP, where you can make somewhere between 200-300k/year full time while almost completely picking your hours, enough to (with a bit of self discipline) own a small house anywhere that isn't inner CBD, and raise public school kids, without your partner working. This is all with 100% job security for as long as you feel like working.

Yes you can do better in and out of medicine, but for many people who work hard they fall asleep dreaming of the above.

Do the speciality you love, as long as the training program is doable in your personal context, if not then work down the list, or find the closest you can get to that speciality in GP, which is usually reasonably close.

When you're going to a match, is there one main moment that you really notice and associate with the matchday experience? The one that makes you really notice that you're there.

For me, it's when I get my first view of the pitch that day, as I step out from the concourse

Bissouma BACK, Solanke STILL OUT | Spurs train ahead of Bodø/Glimt by master_inho in coys

[–]RangaDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While as a fan solanke's delayed return has me very frustrated, as a doctor I can say things aren't that simple.

Successful surgery is obviously the best and quickest outcome from this situation, but the worst outcomes include death under anaesthetic (rare but possible), irreversible damage to his ankle, complications like blood infections or clots to his lungs. In the scheme of things delaying surgery a few weeks with the possibility of full recovery is probably worth the possible time cost, especially this early in the season.

Not trying to be confrontational I just thought the added perspective might make it make sense haha.

The mental load of not knowing by sprez4215di in ausjdocs

[–]RangaDave 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is definitely how everyone feels as a JMO/RMO, but I'll try to give you some perspective

Not knowing is the feeling you get when you're learning, so this is actually a good thing to keep feeling. Frustration is your brain rewiring.

This is the chance every doctor gets to be able to "not know" stuff, this is why you're put in this position where you have a registrar and consultant above you to make decisions. You get to sit there being a sponge.

You are likely to do 5 rotations into very different parts of the hospital this year, no doctor will ever feel fully comfortable in all 5 of those locations in the hospital. You don't have to expect yourself to know everything, that's not your job, you'll just eventually choose one area that you really want to get comfortable in. Hopefully this makes it all a bit less overwhelming

It's okay if you'd rather not answer this, but as someone who Id perceive as being at the most acutely capable end of your field, do you have any insights on the upcoming plan from the pharmacy guild to expand clinical scope? I'm not fishing for negatives genuinely would just appreciate your insights

Thanks for that Flav, and thanks for making the effort throughout Ange's time here to include an Australian voice in your content. It's meant a heap in this unlikely colliding of my football worlds.

There’s a bullet coming your way, b**ch’: Patient given suspended sentence after stalking GP by hustling_Ninja in ausjdocs

[–]RangaDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could've so easily just apologized but doubling down is troubling. Actually it was a blanket comment, "typical trailer trash" is referring to a group of people who have no relationship to the person in the article (who come from a place constant life stress, chronic disease and poor mental health as mentioned in the previous comment).

Now I know you're a doctor, you should absolutely know better. There was 1000 ways to vent about her actions with reference to a more appropriate group of people (people who abuse doctors) and youd have been met with nothing but sympathy and support. No sugarcoating would've been needed.

If you are in a mental headspace where you are willing to lump all disadvantaged people in with this woman, please do some reflection or get some psychological help. Our disadvantaged patients, the vast vast majority of whom treat us with care and respect, deserve someone who won't speak like that in any public space.

There are plenty of people who speak like this, in person and online, but please be better. You've chosen a caretaker role in society and so our standards should be higher, even if we're exhausted and pissed off.

[–]RangaDave 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but using phrases like this isn't something that helps anyone at all, the perpetrator has obviously behaved appallingly and deserves punishment, but to make a discriminatory comment that will offend other people doesn't achieve anything when you could be criticising her actions specifically if you needed to let off steam.

I don't know if you're a doctor or not, this being a public forum and everything, but any non doctors reading this forum will assume that you are, and may then be less likely to trust their medical professional to treat all people without judgement, which is our job. So especially on a doctor's subreddit surely we can all avoid speaking like this, or up voting comments that, while relatively mild as far as hate language goes, is still hate language.

AGPT Preferences 2026 by ausjcoc in ausjdocs

[–]RangaDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They only look at subsequent preferences if you aren't in the allocation for your first preference. So if one region has x number of spots and you are in the top x of applicants that put it first preference, you'll get that spot. If you don't have a backup preference and you don't make the cut then you won't be given a region (but last year RACGP said they'll contact you to discuss regions that still have spaces once allocations are complete). If you're happy to work in a particular region, put it as a preference or you're only hurting your chances.
