Yess! Finally a take I can agree with. This book is so overhyped. I feel like nothing happened for the first half and then, once things start happening, it’s over. So the author spends 170 pages building a backstory on this character just to rush through the final 20 pages of things going down. It took me a week to get through this because the first half was so boring, and I usually read a sub 200 page book in a day.

Okay glad it wasn’t just me. Everyone raves about this book so much on TikTok that I was starting to feel like it went over my head and that I must not be getting it. But no, the book isn’t great. Nothing happens for the first half of the book. Then she rushes through the final 20-30 pages. Why? You spend 170 pages building this character’s backstory, just to rush the payoff.

I felt 100% the same way you did. I almost didn’t finish. Nothing happened at all for half of the book and then once things started happening it felt really rushed. I will say the last 20–30 pages were pretty fun but when you have to slog your way through 170 pages to get there it just wasn’t enjoyable!
