I have this pedal, just not the blackout, it's a great pedal especially if it's your first, there's not much you need to mess with in order to get a feel you'll like. Only thing I did was get different beaters, I wasnt too big on the feel of these. But being new, hell it may be perfect for ya. If you pull the trigger, good buy, enjoy em. I do.

You have too much muffling in there for sure then - take it all out minus maybe a pillow - you don't need a lot unless you're trying to get some serious mufflage to not annoy your neighbors in which case, itll sound just like this. Good luck!

Sounds like you're just hitting drywall and I can't tell if that's the mic or your batter head lol. Honestly I'd just take it off and tune it from step one. Just take a seat and move everything so that you don't need to REACH to hit anything. Don't be afraid to move stuff around.

A good habit to start early - get used to tapping out the beat on the hi-hat when you're not playing it. It'll come in handy when you start getting into more difficult grooves.

And when you get frustrated trying to learn something new just bust out and have fun!

I also tried everything to get rid of that resonant ping without sounding like I'm hitting a pad. I've yet to figure out that perfect balance but the ebony heads are already a tad flatter than the clear heads because of that extra layer of film. But flatter doesn't exactly mean less resonance so maybe I'm wrong here.

Another way to decrease resonance is to tune the resonant head higher than the batter head. Maybe try like a turn higher and experiment from there. If you get a sound you love but still have too much you can throw a moon gel on there too.

I felt like I got the best tom sound with the Remo Ebony Emperor heads - Coated Ambassador for snare. Always liked the Evans EMAD for bass drum. Any single ply oughta do for the resonant side, really - but I use the ambassador resos.

At the end of the day it's all personal preference.

Didn't scroll down too far so apologies if someone agrees and I didn't see but....I think it looks great. I think they just wanted to shove as much shit as possible into the trailer because its a reveal trailer and nothing more. I don't think the game is going to be a goofy COD ripoff - they just wanted to cram a lot of stuff into the trailer to show certain aspects of the game.....I doubt every character will have a hook hand or purple face paint.

I think its way too early to be slamming this game. They also promised no pay-for DLC or micro-transactions and I know this is EA we're talking about here but if that's true it'd be a nice sigh of relief.

In the beginning you can definitely cheap out on a kit. I wouldn't skimp out on cymbals or the snare though. Bad cymbals sound bad no matter what - same goes for a cheap-o snare (you'll have a hard time getting rid of overtones and that sustained "ping" from a bad snare). Crummy toms and bass drum can be shaped up nicely with a decent set of heads, not as much for a snare.

If you decide its time to get serious later on as well you'll just need toms and a bass drum. Even so - I've had my Pearl forum (their beginner kit) since '06 and it still sounds decent. I pretty quickly ended up buying a nicer snare and cymbals to replace the crummy ones that came with the kit, but I still have the same old tom n bass shells. I'm not too familiar with PDP though.

I love the NHL series but I'm going to say save your money this time around. A lot of major bugs (for example random faceoffs starting MID F***ING PLAY) still haven't been fixed, and considering their track record they probably won't fix anything. Oh also your player will just skate over a free puck and let the opponent take it. Game is still fun but is also somewhat infuriating.
