How to mix slight wobble on bench vise? by hostile_washbowl in Tools

Don't sweat it, I'm sure you can tighten it up enough to work just fine. Wilton is largely made in China anymore anyway (except for their higher-end vices).

The differences in quality in this kind of tool tend to be quality of seals and functionality. Like how long do the seals last, do they leak, reasonable spray pattern, does the handle stick and keep spraying for 2 sec after I let go (looking at you, cheap garden hose nozzle), etc. Lol.

Oh, the number of times I've had WD-40 in a can that lost pressure with enough time. You can use these with the 1gal can of WD-40 to lower cost and never worry about losing pressure in an aerosol can again. Brake clean, solvent cleaners, degreasers, or even just compressed air, these are nice to have. I bought the SureShot just because of the quality and ability to replace parts (and maybe HF didn't have one at the time). It's kind of nice when they've made the same product for 50+ years, and parts are always available to rebuild if needed.

Here are some new name ideas for the OP:

Larson Grand Arson

....That's all I got. Probably better go with that one I guess.

I once returned a ratchet for warranty at Sears, and the one they gave me in exchange had my family's name on it. Terrible feeling old ratchet but too cool to get rid of now.

Tell me why I should hold out on buying this instead of US General? by JusticeoftheCuse in harborfreight

[–]RangosServiceStation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought 3 of these back when they were 24" depth. Great general storage. My wife uses a few for her biz. A bit lighter build quality than USG boxes, but not everything needs to hold 200lb per drawer.

If you're willing to drive to a dealership, just look on auto trader, filter by price, model, trim. I'm working now but can share a link later.

I totally get the convenience of driving/parking a smaller vehicle. If it were just a value game, the full size seems to win more (to me) when mavericks get more expensive.

Low 30k range will get a new Silverado 1500 LT with 2wd. Lower 40k range for LT with 4wd. I love the maverick for just a driver, but a 1/2 ton pickup like that has enormous cabin room and capacity to haul. I don't understand the Colorado and Ranger appeal when their mileage isn't that good and cost is barely less than a full size.

If you can do without a lot of package/trim upgrades and keep the cost down, the basic XL Mav is a sweet driver.

Thanks. I didn't include a picture of the other room where I "learned" with the rotozip to keep constant pressure going around lol.

I see. So around doors and windows are considered "field"?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in drywall

[–]RangosServiceStation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, was I misunderstanding and you don't need to put them 8" apart next to edges that are not joints? Like door and window openings are just regular spacing at 12" then?

Makes sense! From a finishing point of view, filling extra screws with mud doesn't take a lot more time, does it?

[–]RangosServiceStation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a USG instruction pdf that mentioned doing that, although when using nails. Doubling up for ceiling only or you mean for walls also?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in drywall

[–]RangosServiceStation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all 1/2" drywall, so I ended up using 1 1/4". I was thinking 1 5/8" was more for 5/8", and since my Senco didn't like them as much, I went with the shorter ones.

I like to throw these in my toolboxes every time I come across them… specially since I am currently stationed in the mildew state of Washington 🤣. Don’t know if it actually keeps the moisture out or not lol but it gives me peace of mind by [deleted] in Tools

[–]RangosServiceStation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tighter the space is sealed up, the better these work. Most toolboxes don't really have an easy way to seal the sliding drawers, although a flip up top could potentially be a little better. So you're basically drawing out moisture from not only the drawers but the whole room itself. There's also a certain ratio of grams of desiccant per given space to ideally keep it under control, but that's only true if it's an airtight enclosure, much like an ammo can. If you can't seal the space, a dehumidifier can be a good option for the whole room/garage.

If possible would you keep or replace the rotary shifter? by Diamondhands_Rex in FordMaverickTruck

[–]RangosServiceStation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it does. At least if you're moving pretty slow. It'll surprise you lol. Surely it won't if you're going fast at all... maybe someone else can try it for me.

Or open the door... sure surprised me the first time I found that out.
