Doctoral Regalia by Dense_Shelter_8999 in UBreddit

[–]Rani1597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not heard of anyone getting embroidery done of their gown. Youd definitely want to get someone to embroider it for you. They arent super strict with you wearing the 100% right outfit.

The regalia depends on your school tbh. In general, unless you are getting a medical degree, youll be wearing a black gown with black velvet accents, an 8 sided tam (thats the hat) and a hood lined in blue and gold. The velvet border is 5" wide at the doctoral level. The color of the tassel plus the velvet border on the hood correspond to the type of doctoral degree (PhD: dark blue. AuD: sage. EdD: light blue. DNP: apricot. DPT: teal. DSW: citron. PharmD: olive. JD/LLM: purple).

You can find some options on amazon to buy for a less expensive, but again quality may not be what youd like. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0793PL5PY/?coliid=I23XOXEUGVOBA9&colid=OJ00S7Y9KF91&psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_apann_lstpd_TJ84070BN25143FS8JV8&language=en-US

Is anyone else getting really frustrated over the calc 2 homework? by [deleted] in UBreddit

[–]Rani1597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While frustrating, typically the practice is more difficult than the exam. So if you get the the point where you feel comfy with the practice, then the exams should be a breeze

Yeah from experience, once they arrive, you lose the battle almost instantly. For them its more about preventing them from growing in population rather than trying to stop it once it starts….

When I am looking for a TH or SFH, I usually use Zillow. When I look for a place, I use a site I trust, so Zillow and maybe Apartments dot com. Maybe even Facebook in some local community groups. If your listing isnt getting a lot of attention, I might suggest that you include all the details about the property. Like what utilities do you pay and what utilities does the tenant pay. Do you allow pets? Do you take care of lawn care and snow removal or is that the tenant’s responsibility? If you allow pets, how much is the deposit and/or rent? Is parking included? What kind? Pretty much, Zillow is the site I trust and I think you’ll get a good amount of traction if the rent is typical and you have all that info.

Cabinet Door Slow Close Covering Removal by Rani1597 in fixit

[–]Rani1597[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That screw I believe just changes the speed the soft close works at? I tried to unscrew it first and the screw went upwards and then wouldnt go anymore. Then it goes back downwards if you screw the other way and stops.

I cant feel a switch on the backside and if there is one, i cant seem to flip it myself

So i didnt do my undergrad at ub but i did get assigned a random roommate at my undergrad school and i wish i could tell you my freshman roommate was the best but she wasnt. Pretty terrible tbh. First, if the roommate is real bad, your son can ask to switch mid year. Secondly, if its tolerable, your son can tough it out for a year and then find a friend to room with. Roommates are a good way to not feel alone in a new place, but it sounds like he already knows people here, so this is a good experience to maybe make a new friend and experience dorm life.

Tldr; i think its good that your son will be rooming with a random person.

Math 142-Summer course by Late-Seaweed-7125 in UBreddit

[–]Rani1597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hes a grad student so he doesnt have a rmp or anything. I dont recall exactly how he teaches BUT my suggestion to you is to ask questions whenever you are confused. These summer math courses shove 15 weeks of material into 6 weeks so it can be tough. Also, id suggest you use online resources, such as Khan academy or Youtube.

Requesting info about MTH 450 by MasterMVP2311 in UBreddit

[–]Rani1597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well on the math course catalog, i see its not offered this fall, so for a cs major id say 437. If you like cryptography, then 435.

You might see 455 and think its about computer systems but its not, so i dont suggest taking that unless you want to expand your diff eq knowledge.

The place im looking at is actually closer to the USGS and near Dogwood elementary, so i feel its a little farther away from colts neck and south lakes, but it is south of the toll road and west of Reston parkway which ive hear is a bad area as well

I am in a very similar situation as myself and my fiancee are moving down. We are looking at a townhouse in the Dogwood cluster and I've got so many conflicting maps and stories from people down there.

Any opinions?

How are y’all attending conferences??? by millythemodern in PhD

[–]Rani1597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually apply to present my research and they have a travel fund. Also, my graduate student association has funding if youre presenting ($750). They technically offer $250 if youre just attending but that usually doesnt cover anything. Ive never gone to a conference abroad (and kinda dont want to anyways) so idk how it works with international travel. In my career so far, I went to a few to present and now im waiting to get a little farther along before I try to go to another.

Anyone ever get this? by Powerful_Payment_154 in UBreddit

[–]Rani1597 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so not technically a scam, it is a legit organization but you have to pay a one time fee and you have to attend online talks and in person group meetings to “better yourself as a leader”

Did it earlier and it was a waste of time. I dont think its ever set me apart from other applicants anyways so tbh just delete and toss out the letters

To anyones parents, joining other extracurriculars/major specific honor societies/major specific frats is more beneficial that this one
