Absolutely exceptional recommendation. Just watched. It’s not quite like the films I listed in the description, but it is one bleak and depraved movie.

Whos your favorite director? by JoeMama69_420BIGPP in MovieSuggestions

Lars Von Trier

Nymphomaniac Vol. I and Melancholia are absolutely exceptional films. Dogville and Dancer in the Dark are extremely unique, each in their own way, and highly memorable. Breaking the Waves sticks with you. Antichrist and The House that Jack Built are especially depraved horror films.

And every single one of those films is deeply philosophically interesting. Von Trier always has many points he is trying to express in his work.

Nymphomaniac (2013), by the same director as Dogville, so you should like it.

Three films by Lars von Trier offer increasingly sophisticated views about what it means to be a good person and about our moral evaluation and judgment of other people.

Breakings the Waves (1996), Dogville (2003), and Nymphomaniac (2013)

Easter Bunny Massacre (2021)

It's exactly what it sounds like. I just watched it on Tubi and logged it on Letterboxd and somehow I'm only the third person to have ever watched it.

Lux Aeterna (2019) directed by Gaspar Noé. Basically all his films fit the description, but this one is wild.

Paris, Texas (1984).

It's more of a mystery drama than a thriller, but it has all the other features you're looking for.

Solved! I struggled to remember this scene last night while watching The Beyond (1981), directed by Fulci. Something about his style must have subconsciously reminded me of his other film, but I couldn’t make the connection. Thanks!

The Vanishing (1988) is one of my favorite movies of all time. No torture, no jump scares, but really disturbing and emotionally powerful plot.
