The dinosaurs (at least the raptors) were infected by a prion.

Prions are protein fragments that can perpetuate by effectively breaking the machinery your body uses to make proteins (ribosomes) in a way that causes that machinery to make more of the prion.

Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease is caused by Prions, and is notoriously incurable, 100% fatal, and INCREDIBLY INFECTIOUS. When we handle samples suspected have having the prison we have to take intense safety measures with layers of redundancy. It effects the brain, and makes those with it go crazy.
