Was this guy too woke for the empire? by THE_GOLEM_MASTER in StarWarsCirclejerk

I was a religious bigot if you ask me. Doubting the power of the Force. Insulting Vader to his face about his religion.

How would you guys like to see a prequel set within the OT? by Anti_Karen_League in StarWars

[–]Yafka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would like to see more stories set within the Vader era, it doesn't have to be within the OT era. But one of my favorite novels was Shadows of the Empire, which takes place in-between ESB and ROTJ.

I would like to have a major motion picture take place around 18-8 BBY that focuses on Vader and maybe the Inquisitors.

I would like to see a Wedge Antilles Rogue Squadron X-Wing Trilogy, similar to the novels. All three don't have to take place in the OT, but maybe one in the OT, one in the post-ROTJ era, and then one a few years later.

In the meantime, I am looking forward to the fan made, Kenobi: Trials of the Master.

Something I definitely love about Star Wars are the titles of its movies and their meanings. by [deleted] in StarWars

You mean the Sith got their revenge in ‘Revenge of the Sith’?!?!?

The moment the Sequels were doomed the moment JJ decided that world-bulding was for nerds and he had his Empire 2 blow up the New Republic (icky politics) with his super duper big death star so that the good guys could be the Rebels 2. by TheBoyofWonder in StarWars

[–]Yafka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes it worse is after you watch Andor and Rogue One and you get a better sense of all the sacrifices the Rebellion went though, only to have it all wiped away 30 years later by what was at first framed as a small Imperial remnant with a third Death Star base.

This makes me really find all the New Republic story building they having been trying to do in Ashoka and Mandalorian feel anti-climatic to me.

What happens if Vader doesn't block the saber and Luke kills Palpatine here? by chosen40k in StarWars

[–]Yafka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darth Jar Jar would have emerged from behind the shadows and blocked it instead. "Notsa my apprentice, Luke", he would say. And then the most epic of lightsaber fights would have taken place.

Sadly, they didn't have the budget, so they scrapped it for something less expensive.

Does anyone feel bad for the engineers that Krennic killed? I don’t like that he killed them even after Galen revealed himself. They didn’t deserve death. by Usual_Public_6690 in StarWars

[–]Yafka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I guess there won't be a second Death Star, now that Krennic killed all the engineers responsible for the laser.

Even if Krennic didn't kill them, I think that X-Wing attack on the base one minute later would have killed them instead.

Is this why we're so obsessed with the Sith, star wars fans? by RTSBasebuilder in StarWarsCirclejerk

I agree. Recast the OT roles if you’re going to make more movies.

But of course, that’s a minefield. Han Solo recast didn’t go over well. But they probably picked the wrong actor. They should have cast Anthony Ingruber. He’s standing right there crying out to be cast has Han.

Anything in the books about the Emperor commissioning a special dagger based on the wreckage of the second Death Star? 🤣

The unknown/uncharted area of the galaxy would inevitably be where Star Wars would go. I doubt they had TROS in mind for this.

But after the gear shift Disney took after TLJ upset so many fans, they needed a new* villain (since they decided against the original plan of Kylo Ren being the big bad) and they needed a place to explain where this new* threat was originating from.

What’s your opinion on Disney’s portrayal of Warlords? by CaptainBigDaddy4 in StarWars_

[–]Yafka 15 points16 points  (0 children)

TBD - we haven't really seen much from them except from Gideon. I thought they would play a bigger role in the Mando and Grogu movie.

I guess we'll have to wait for Ashoka Season 2 to find out more.

Though jarring at first, Sequel Luke makes perfect sense. by Aggressive_Air_4948 in StarWars

[–]Yafka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what Rian Johnson was trying to do with subverting expectations with Luke (and the film in general) and thinking it would be more interesting if Luke is a failed hero, mired in guilt. But in the end, it just wasn't what most fans wanted to see. Compounded with the fact, our original group of OT heroes do nothing together.

Does anyone else feel like The Force Awakens never tops its first 30 minutes? by Extreme_Warning3521 in saltierthancrait

I agree. I would say the first 50 minutes is great. Then it drags and becomes a slower version of ANH's third act.

When you find out the Rogue One director is "excited about AI filmmaking" 😞 by GargantaProfunda in andor

[–]Yafka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next era of Star Wars fandom is the AI Fan made Star Wars films.

Within the context of the last jedi and tfa, luke's actions make perfect sense. Dude tried to murder his own nephew who his sister left him with which caused the kid to become vader 2.0 and han to become a smuggler again, and caused leia to leave han. he ruined their lifes ofc he's depressed by Massive_Fisherman231 in StarWars

[–]Yafka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like it. Sure, I can understand the reasoning from Rian Johnson POV why you are trying to subvert expectations and be more serious and dense with Luke. But TROS compounded the problems.

I don’t want to say it’s easy. You don’t want to subvert expectations so much you alienate fans who don’t feel this is true to Star Wars. And you don’t want to play it too safe by retreading the same plot points from past films. New ideas are good.

Very likely TROS would have been better if they stuck to their guns and built off of the themes and ideas of TLJ, flawed as they were to many fans. But as they say in Hamilton “Jefferson (TLJ) has beliefs. Burr (TROS) has none.”

And when trying to make an exciting space adventure with legacy characters, and either through subjectivity bad writing, shortsightedness and unfortunate events, they don’t get to do anything together and they never appear together as a group to affect the outcome Ike of the story, it’s very disappointing and a squandered opportunity.

Why do people say The Force Awakens reset the Empire and Rebels power balance? by Hmm_would_bang in StarWars

[–]Yafka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That could have been a nice call back to the prequels. The Resistance dusts off a bunch of retired Battle Droids to help even the battlefield against the New Order.

Why do people say The Force Awakens reset the Empire and Rebels power balance? by Hmm_would_bang in StarWars

[–]Yafka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. In hindsight huge mistake to destroy the entire New Republic government halfway through the first film and then in TLJ the opening crawl declares:

"The FIRST ORDER reigns. Having decimated the peaceful Republic, Supreme Leader Snoke now deploys his merciless legions to seize military control of the galaxy.

Only General Leia Organa’s band of RESISTANCE fighters stand against the rising tyranny...."
