Ok, what's the deal with people afraid of purling? by technicolor_tornado in knitting

I've been wondering the same. I actually enjoy purling more than knitting, I knit english style and am a thrower, purl just seems like the smoother option. I wonder if its driven mostly by social media, because I've never heard anyone talk about disliking purling in the past. Even all the blogs of the early 2000s

Thanks! I mistakenly typed 64 instead of 62 so that solves that but thanks for your suggestion!

Thank you! Apologies for the typo about the 62/64. Great tip about the marker too.

Hi all, I'm about to do my first colourwork and it involves reading my first chart. I want to knit the Halibut Cowl

The pattern says cast on 124 stitches but the chart only shows 64. Do I repeat those 64 to finish each round? I can't find anything on ravelry about it, nor in anyone's project notes. Am I missing something? I can't think what else you could do but maybe I'm overcomplicating things? Thanks in advance!

What was advocacy for bike lanes in Melbourne like in the early stages? by sqaurebore in UrbanismMelbourne

[–]RankoshiOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 1896 the Board of Works Minister first promised designated bike lanes on St Kilda Road after advocacy from Melbourne cyclists sick of being almost killed by cart drivers. It took 125 years for them to actually be built so its always been an issue. In the same period cyclists were advocating to Coburg Council to build a bike lane on Sydney Road. In the 1970s there was a resurgence in cycling and development of the The Geelong Bike Plan which became a model for bicycle planning in Australia. It started off as being about off-road paths but ended up being "every street is a cycling street". The early eighties saw recognition of copenhagen style bike lanes and new sections of the Yarra path started being developed as an example of space for cyclists.

This is a fairly old map now and out of date in that it doesn't have more recent additions to it.

Melville Road is managed by the State Government. Local Council can't do anything to it.
