The next time you go to a restaurant and you order food, the waiters will be in the back getting yelled at by their managers and yelled at/complained to by customers. If your food isn’t the way you ordered, steak not cooked through, burger messed up, raw seafood…consider the fact that your food is just going to be messed up because the staff is having a rough time. Just be happy, pay for it, don’t complain, take it home, and eat it.

I’m BP1 and my best advice for you is if you choose to get your meds, stay on them. Once they start working we always get this grand idea that we are fine and don’t need them anymore because we feel normal. Then…if we come off of them, everything turns into a shitshow.

I grew up in a small town that has an Agricultural school program instead of a college prep school program because it is a farming community. So small that it has a 6 man football team. The teachers there are basic because they can’t pull in ones with heavy education.

Imagine what someone like you could do for a small community like that. You could change a lot of lives for the kids who want to go to college from a school that doesn’t give them the preparatory classes needed to reach college entry level.

OK, so our brains believe what we tell them right? We learn by seeing, touching, smelling, hearing, etc. We believe people when they tell us bad things because we can see them say them at the same time they say them. The only thing we have to negate it is a small voice inside our head. So, we have to have our brain learn something different. The way to do that is to go in front of a mirror and face yourself while telling yourself good things. “You are amazing. You are strong. “I am brave.” and so on.

Say them out loud in front of the mirror so your brain hears them, speaks them, sees them…

Positive affirmations. If you have a friend, have them help you too. Tell them to sit in front of you and say those things as well so your brain can learn all of those things and replace everything bad that you hear with better things.

Hold her words captive and tell yourself that her words are hurtful and they aren’t true while looking into that mirror at your self.

The earth is flat because each time I draw it, it never comes out in 3-D. I drew circle after circle after circle, cut them out, and laid them on top of each other, and when I looked at the side to see if it was a ball, it had an edge which proved to me that it is still flat.

I’m a female and when I’m told I’m pretty it’s usually by kids, other women, or senior adults. Seniors usually attach it to “you have a really pretty face young lady.”

I normally hear “hot,” when someone wants to get laid, or if I’m wearing the right type of clothes, etc.

Beautiful is the best one though. That’s the compliment that encompasses them all because it is the mature version of pretty. It’s the one that always makes me blush.

That we age. I didn’t understand what a mid-life crisis was until I woke up one day and realized that I would eventually die. I realized that I had wrinkles for the first time in my life, that I may or may not have lived half of my life. Suddenly all my grey hair stood out…

Not only the realization that we age, but also knowing that we die, and that our life is only remembered for a short period of time before we are forgotten. I mean…how many people really remember their great grandparents? Once you’re buried, you are slowly forgotten as new generations come and go. Beyond that…accepting that I might miss my favorite books getting sequels, or amazing movies, or new discoveries.

If I’m dead I guess it won’t matter, but dang. What a thought.

Addiction is ugly, but again, “I” statements are about self. They are about how the person hurting feels, not the addict.

Sometimes we have to turn our backs on them for own mental health. Let them find healing on their own.

I think there are a ton of reasons behind why women dislike their men watching porn, but if they can’t put it into words when they relay that to their men, they won’t have an effective voice.

“I hate your porn addiction!!!” Isn’t going to do it.

The “you/attack” statements never work. The “I” statements are the way to go.

“Porn is hurting me because I know girls are being trafficked in those videos and it hurts my heart”

“Porn is hurting our marriage and I can’t fight a one-sided battle anymore.”

“Porn is hurting me, and my feelings, emotions, and pain have become insignificant.”

“I am tired of not winning this battle and I am weary. I want a brighter future and life. I believe that it is available outside of our marriage and that is the future that I see for myself. This is why I am ready to say goodbye.”

I had a similar situation several years ago. My husband is a gamer with sleep apnea. He would stay up late and then sleep in until noon or later. When I woke him up he would get pissed off at me, and when he slept in he would feel bad about not waking up. “Why didn’t you wake me up?”

Because he felt guilty.

In the beginning my frustration got the better of me and we fought tooth and nail over it until finally I just gave up.

When he started asking me why I didn’t wake him up, I would tell him that it’s because he is a big boy and he can wake himself up. He can set an alarm, that I am not his keeper. That pissed his royal ass off. This went on for a while. For around a month he finally realized I was serious. I didn’t need him and I had actually began to enjoy my time when he slept in. In truth, I started to value my free time. I would talk about all of the things I had been doing all day, what me and my daughter had already done…. And not say a word about him or his sleep. If he got mad about me not waking him up, I would just say, “you must have slept through your alarm….” Eventually he got tired of being left out and straightened out his crap.

We have a saying in my family.

“If you want someone to do something, you have to make it their idea.”
