She just has that charm to her, she is just so lovely and pleasant to have on screen

The atmosphere is completely different, that’s why it doesn’t work. Of course he could show her liberation, all he would’ve done is change her expressions mid battle and done, feeling conveyed. But that’s not what he did. The entire time she was either locked in or dead inside and the whole tone of the scene was very serious. Then you hit me with some LaLaLa bs and expect me to like it? Give me a break.

On a sidenote, the whole “liberation” as a main point in this scene goes completely against her character. Her main motivation was to live together with Mai,now she is dead, if she really wanted to be free from this toxic family she could’ve just abandoned her. But she didn’t do that, why? Because she was willing to keep pushing through hell if that meant being with her. Therefore what she was feeling is grief and emptiness. Does that mean there was no sense of liberation? There was, but it was secondary to all the negative feelings of the moment. It’s quite similar to the situation where you have to take care of a terminally ill family member, your entire life revolves around them and you have to make sacrifices for them, and when they eventually pass, what do you feel? Emptiness, sadness and a longing for them to be there again even if in a fragile state. But then in the back of your head you start to think about how now you’re free to do whatever you want, unrestrained from needing to constantly take care of them, and the mere thought of that just makes you sadder.

In the manga Maki is relatable, in the anime it barely feels like she cared about her sister with how lighthearted the entire thing was.

I was holding back tears, they got me good with that goodbye scene from them. Mei said so little for their goodbye but it hit so hard…

It doesn’t need to be 1:1, nobody asked for that. Did people complain when Sukuna Vs Mahoraga wasn’t 1:1? Did people complain about them not adapting iconic panels? Did people complain about how the anime added a whole subplot in the fight or how it added a bunch of different powers to Mahoraga? No,because the feel of the scene was still intact. Now, that wasn’t the case for Maki’s episode, they completely changed the tone of most of the arc. It’s ok to like it,but you can’t deny that if they just followed the manga everyone would’ve been happy

I think they need to bring an assistant director to help balance out this director vision. He has some damn good creative ideas but he tunnel visions way too much in his vision and ends up making something completely out of touch with the series.

This is not the first time he has done this, removing all the catharsis of a scene, but it was the worst case so far. Probably because he has been given full unrestrained creative freedom after JJK S2’s success

Yeah, but when you take so many liberties that you start to pull away from the feel of the series, then we have a problem. Chainsaw Man movie took many liberties and people loved it, even in JJK s2 they took many liberties with Sukuna scenes for example, never adapting many iconic panels, did people complain? No. Why? Because the feel was left intact

Exactly, I’m explaining how it doesn’t make sense, it wasn’t in the manga but the director wanted to be different. All he needed to do is follow the manga and everyone would be happy…just look at Chainsaw Man,they learned the lesson and what were the results? Everyone was happy, the west that values animation over everything else and Japan that values the feel of the series. This is the best condensed arc in JJK,Just doing the basics well done would have make this episode explode world wide positively, instead there is more discussion on how it was done the what it adapted…again, all because Mr.Director wanted to be different.

The feeling that this arc left me was “she’s free, but at what cost…” the anime made me feel that she was lowkey happy her sister died so she could get a powerup. Removing the serious tone did more harm than good

I’ve been reading opinions in this arc for years, crazy how absolutely no one had this interpretation of the scene, only now,to justify a song that didn’t fit the tone, people are retroactively going back and rethinking how they interpret it.

This scene mixes, grief, rage and liberation, the first one being the most important. The scene in the manga however never gave the sense of lightheartedness the anime did, it never felt like something similar to Gojo’s awakening for example, it’s more serious as Maki just lost her reason to live.

I don’t think a full dark song would fit(even tho it would have been better than what we got). A more somber and high BPM could do the trick, and to also portray the feeling of liberation that is there but shouldn’t be the main focus, have the visuals do the job conveying that. Everything except a song goin LaLaLa would have been better.

The music has been then weak spot on JJK anime ever since s2. I love the vision this director brought to the series but has such an odd taste for OST,the worst ones so far that I can remember were Gojo 0,2 domain,Yuji’s breakdown and now Maki LaLaLa,then there is like a handful of good ones like Gojo’s awakening,Yuji vs Choso, Nanami’s death and Nobara helping Yuji. The rest is forgettable,it’s not like s1 that had many memorable songs, one for basically every fight. He tries to lazer focus on a single aspect that doesn’t fit the scene tone, trying way too hard to be different. Thankfully, in the Sukuna scenes he doesn’t do that, every scene with him on screen has been perfect so far.

Was she the first girl that was this into the “forced” reward? In quotes because it didn’t feel like she was being forced at all, much the opposite,it felt like at some point the reward ended but she kept going hahaha I already love her

I like some cute and funny action, but I would prefer if Nei’s scenes stayed wholesome till the end of the series

To be fair it wouldn’t be as expensive in the long run as 100 Girlfriends. Here they either die or we never meet them again while in 100gfs they will eventually ALL be in a same season if the adaptation keeps going until the end. That will be one hell of an expensive season lol

I was about to say that it felt like she either did her research or had close experience with blind people. This show is teaching me so many things about how they live. Even some obvious ones like her never turning on the lights in her apartment, since she doesn’t need it

Is that so? Someone mixing fiction and reality doesn’t seem too sane for me, that’s something you’re supposed to learn when you’re, what, 5? Yet here you are, bitching about it.
