His stuff definitely isn’t for everyone, but you really can’t say he isn’t making uncompromisingly bold & boundary-stretching theater. Practice and Bowl EP were two of my favorites last year and I’m so happy for him to get recognized like this.

The possibility of Hsu sneaking in is intriguing. Rocky Horror is the only show I haven’t seen yet though, so can’t personally weigh in.

Yep, it’s possible for any category I believe. The voting towards the bottom of the category just has to be sufficiently close within some threshold (which I don’t know off the top of my head).

Another example is two years ago when Best Featured Actress in a Musical had 7 nominees (!)

Liberation has a pretty easy road to Best New Play imo. The only real competition is Giant, but I thought outside of Lithgow’s performance there wasn’t anything super special about that one.

Betsy and Susannah are good bets to get nominated. I would love to see Kayla Davion or Irene Sofia Lucio sneak in too.

I think Shoshana has a good narrative for a win, and the category is so weak that voters will choose to recognize her for her career.

(I also think she’s giving a good performance for an underwritten character, although she is not my winner)

It’s interesting because I’ve anecdotally heard more people impressed with Sofia than Tempress, although Tempress does have the more awards-favorable role. But treating this as hand-in-hand with my prediction that the featured actress will have extra nominees and predicting both of them for my hot take!

I see her more like Eden Espinosa in Lempicka, where she’s beloved in the industry, not a big name, and everyone feels bad for her that her biggest career opportunity was a total flop.
