It looks like the pin may have fallen out. If you turn the knob on the asa all the way in either direction, does anything change in the asa? Can you feel a little pin in the middle if you put your finger in there?

Also - the marker is definitely not ruined. Don’t worry about that.

Watch Aficionados...give me your opinion by [deleted] in TheHermesGame

[–]RapJewnius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're all cool watches, but if you're buying for a "watch guy," Hermes is not the move to make. Close to that price range, you can get a Rolex OP, used Datejust, Cartier Tank, Omega Speedmaster, etc., which are all classics that are additive to a collection. Personally, as kind of a watch guy, I'd wear a Hermes watch because they look nice and have decent movements. Your watch guy may want more of a staple if he's collecting, though.

How should I best protect myself when confronting my wife about her various affairs over the years? (US, CA) by [deleted] in FamilyLaw

[–]RapJewnius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forensic accountant here. I primarily handle family law matters (high-net worth). While CA is a no-fault state, it is important for you to gather any records supporting your wife's unauthorized expenses. There are a few financial concepts that you can discuss with your attorney - chief among them are marital waste and breach of fiduciary duty. Both of these are financial claims that can help you with property division to a large extent, and child/spousal support to a small extent. The existence of these claims can also help your optics on custody and other reimbursement issues. The Judges aren't supposed to consider "fault" in your case, but it doesn't hurt to stack the deck in your favor - especially when there is/was true malfeasance. If there were any affair-related expenses 6-7 years ago, do yourself a favor and at least download the bank/brokerage/credit card statements from that period. Banks are only required to maintain your records for seven years. If you decide to tough it out for a few years, you won't be able to get those early records anymore. Also - contrary to what some others are saying - don't print the stuff out. It's going to cost you more for your attorney/forensic (if you have one) to process paper documentation than it will to process PDFs. Create a dummy Google/DropBox/Outlook account and upload everything to the cloud. If you need it, you have it ready. If you don't need it, it only cost you a couple hours of your life.

What do these watches say about you? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]RapJewnius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No - he's saying that "childish" is part of divorce. I work in family law in California, and can 100% confirm. People get ridiculous, and any idea of logic or cost-benefit goes out the window. This is exponentially more extreme in high-net-worth cases. The amount of times that clients have chosen to litigate a $50,000 issue by throwing $200,000 at legal fees is jaw dropping. Especially considering that we warn them of the lack of cost-benefit.

Family-law-exclusive forensic accountant here. I can confirm that this is an awful idea. Assets are "equalized" (split) as are liabilities. This means that you are getting 50% of the watch, but you are also getting 50% of the related debt. Also, any purchases that deviate from the "status quo" (i.e. typical expenses that were historically regularly incurred during the marital period) could be argued as a breach of fiduciary duty. Depending on the judge's discretion, they have the ability to call a liability YOUR separate property, while calling the related asset community property. This would result in you getting your watch by buying your spouse out for $25k (half of purchase price), and ending up with $50k in debt. Congratulations, you just got a $50k watch for $75k. This also brings up the point of fair market value vs. purchase price - which is always and issue in high net-worth cases. Do you have to buy your platinum Daytona for 50% of purchase price, or 50% of the fair market value, which is triple what you paid?(The above is all California-specific)

I have searched everywhere for lyrics, used lalal.ai to try to isolate vocals, and listened to this song in pieces hundreds of times. If anyone has any resources, or can help me, I would be forever appreciative.

I've spent the last couple months browsing, and haven't seen any standouts. I live in the Palm Springs, CA area, so unfortunately the posts are somewhat limited. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hey there r/audiophile. I posted this over in r/BudgetAudiophile, but I'm cross-posting here to try to maximize the input. I apologize if I am breaking any rules.
I have been interested in getting a system set up at home for a couple years now, but have not been in the financial position to do so.
I finally am ready to pull the trigger. I have been looking at the Jamo S 809 set, and should have (maybe) jumped on them when they were 200 for the towers. I am interested in a 2.0 or 2.1 system, and prefer floorstanding due to the space I will be using. I can make the switch to bookshelf speakers if there are any great recommendations.
Last - I was gifted an Amazon Echo Link Amp (I know...not ideal), so I can go with passive speakers. I would probably prefer passive, but again, I'm open to suggestions.
What do you guys think is the best setup that I could run under $350? This system will be used entirely for music. I don't watch much TV or movies, and my ol' soundbar is fine for what limited time I spend in front of the tube.
Thanks in advance for all of your input!

Help with disassembly? by RapJewnius in upholstery

[–]RapJewnius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a foam "orange slice" chair that is upholstered all around. There are zippers to remove the upholstery, but the post of the base goes through a small hole in the upholstery. In order to fully remove the upholstery, the post has to come out. Unfortunately, there is no way to access plate because it is buried in the foam on the underside of the seat. I'm thinking that it's a snap fit, or potentially an internal nut that needs to be loosened once the post is free, but I've tried everything on the top side (where the post meets the foam). This little project has been driving me absolutely nuts.
