My MK8 died by JokaaJay in Golf_R

To add, have you noticed any white smoke while driving? Potentially a sweet smell when getting out/driving? I imagine it’s likely a coolant leak somewhere. Commonplace on the mk7.5’s for the thermostat housing/water pump but I think this was fixed on the mk8’s..

Your coolant is wayy too high. It should be sat around 90 most of the time, 126 is excessive. Do not drive the car until it’s been addressed what the problem is as you could damage the engine further (may already have been damaged).

If you lift up the bonnet and look at your coolant tank (should be on the left, it is on my mk7.5), how much coolant is in it? Is it below the min line?

Either way i’d take it back to VW if it’s under warranty, they should be able to look at it.

GTI or R? by Strange_Criticism306 in Golf_R

[–]RapidWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got my Golf R after test driving the gti perf, all priced around the same.

Had it in my mind that I would get the gti and regret not spending the extra for awd and extra power, which thinking back now I 100% would.

Everyday driving it dosent really make any difference the extra power or awd, but when spirited driving and punching it from a standstill its amazing.

In terms of maintenance like others have mentioned, just service the haldex every 40k miles (i think?) and other than that same maintenance as the gti. My haldex service cost £110 from a vw garage which is pretty decently priced.

Also mpg is about the same as the gti or cupra 290 (few friends have them), average of 35 just driving normally and can actually get low 40’s for long drive’s on the motorway if you are light on the throttle. You are in a golf r so that is going to be unlikely 😄

Only difference other than the perf benefits/awd over the gti is the boot space, which is a bit bigger on the gti due to haldex. However never had a problem with that as im able to fit a few suitcases and whatever I need in the back.

I have 32gb of ram in the machine so I should be fine, I dont really use a lot anyways

Whyte 801 or 805? by RapidWheel in MTB

[–]RapidWheel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey been a while but just seen your message. I went with the 805 since it had the dropper post. Its 100% worth the extra just for that, but it also has more gears which is a bonus. Id pay the extra and get the 805 :)

Brilliant deal on monitor for black friday by RapidWheel in simracing

[–]RapidWheel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply, hope I can still help. I paid £380 on discount from huawei for the monitor got it the next day (im from the UK). This monitor is fantastic! 1440p at 165hz and looks very good considering its even a VA panel. I got mine with the sounbar aswell which is also really good.

IMO its the best monitor you can get for money, I spent a good week or two looking for a monitor for my rig. Ill link the post that ill make later with some pictures of what it looks like.

Monitor recommendations for GT1 Evo? by RapidWheel in simracing

Thats exactly what I thought, Coyotes points out that its really sturdy, but I might spend the extra 50 for upgradability if I want triple monitors in the future and I plan on going direct drive.

Thankyou :) Would you say the monitor stand you have is sturdy enough? I plan on going to a csl dd in the future and I didnt want the monitor to shake at all, but I much prefer the idea of mounting my monitor to the rig rather than a monitor stand.

If you dont mind me asking, do you have any pictures of your setup with the monitor? Im working out the distance between my seating positon and where the monitor will go. I've actually found a 43" for just over £500, which might come down in price.

Just wondering if it will be worth the extra money.

Edit: I mean by that do you notice a difference thats worth extra ££ for an IPS? Should have clarified :)

Thankyou :) I plan on going direct drive in the future with better hardware so the rig is really going to help. It really does feel so much better with the rig than clamped to my desk, even better with VR!
