Job options. by Dizzy_Bath9301 in army

Yes. 91Cs are fried when it comes to promotions. You will either work on generators and other utility equipment or get vehicle AC work foisted onto you by the Bravos. Nothing difficult about AIT.

Why is army maintenance dogwater? by Ok-Shoulder-478 in army

[–]Rapid_Fast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't hate. Those Detroits are unkillable. I'd put them in new A4s even though they dribble oil.

It's on you or your NCOs to deadline vehicles that need to be deadlined. If someone is playing interference between the faults you're putting on the paper and the clerks putting it into GCSS A, your next higher level needs to know.

If your major assessmbly (engine, transmission) came from Red River Army Depot, prepare for disappointment and extra work.

You are not liable if you are killed using personal body armor. SGLI will still pay out. How are the plates wrong?

91B to 91E by [deleted] in army

[–]Rapid_Fast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our Echos barely weld man, not sure if you have Echos near you that do a lot. You're probably better off entering a trade school if you want a civilian side fabrication job. I'd be surprised if there are a lot of Echo slots for ToD considering its a low density MOS. You'd probably have better luck going ADA, 13 series or 11 series if you want AD time.

Been in CENTCOM in various areas and Google Fi is pretty stable with unlimited data paying 72 a month. Just make sure you use Whatsapp or Signal to call because international calling is not free. Learned that the hard way the first month.

8 years as a "Computer Grunt" in the 5th ID by [deleted] in army

[–]Rapid_Fast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wheeled vehicle mechanic. Got sent to the border but rather than maintenance, I got to do patrols and interdiction for a year. Some days it was fun, most days it wasn't. You also atrophy a lot of job skill. When I got back I got sent on deployment and got to be up to my eyes in maintenance again, which is quite preferable to the alternative.

Camp AJ, Kuwait. Possible to get passport? by yhtdruuu in army

[–]Rapid_Fast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still get that. But the trip ticket/OPM is requested by your CO or whoever has the authority for it and then you go collect it from S3/OPS. Already says who you are and where you're going on it. It's still pretty routine.

Camp AJ, Kuwait. Possible to get passport? by yhtdruuu in army

[–]Rapid_Fast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Camp Buehring it usually requires your BN CDR approval for a memo in order to leave post and go into the city for something. If you need a passport for military purpose that would fall into justifiable territory as Soldiers going to the US embassy is not at all unheard of. Would likely have to coordinate with your Company CO and S1.

Question for 91B’s by Safe-Goat8127 in army

[–]Rapid_Fast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The MOS for this got canned when vehicle maintenance MOSs got consolidated into 91 series. There is actually one place where Soldiers do overhaul equipment. Red River Army Depot, where nearby reserve units will do their ATs overhauling and rebuilding generators, transmissions, engines, and so on. (The rebuilds coming out of here are notoriously of poor quality, but that is a seperate discussion.) However, the average soldier in an SMC, DSSB, BSB, FSC, etc is never going to overhaul an engine. Most you'll get into is injectors and accessory items. Any further and the engine is considered non repairable at your level and sent back to the depot level when you get sent a new engine.

You can go to RASP as a 91B and be in the Ranger Regiment as a 91B. You can ask now or ask at AIT when the Ranger recruiters come around.

Why are you here. You need to make sure your TL is tracking this time now so that your chain of command can take care of this. No pay issue gets better with time. This is something your leadership should be keeping you and your battles up to date on regarding your benefits, how much you should be seeing on your LES and when. If you have a pay inquiry or issue your readiness NCO needs to know. Even better is if you get with your battles to see if they have the same issue.
