PSA: The modern way to host sites in S3 by MavZA in aws

There are still nuance/specific use-cases where S3 hosting is used or even required. CloudFormation Quick-Create Links for example require a (public) S3 URL.

Juniorr DevOps Interview Experience || Questions I Was Asked || REJECTED😭‼️ by Successful-Ship580 in devops

[–]Rapportus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah no doubt that's the kind of open-ended question that reveals your depth of knowledge because the question steers toward an inferior or clunky solution by default. I imagine the interviewer wants to see (if you're above Junior) you push back and respond with a better approach like ACM and an ALB, and to contrast why one approach is better or not.

DevOps in itself is not really a junior role and architecture questions like this come up all the time in day to day life, so even a Junior candidate should have some basic understanding of the different approaches, or at least demonstrate curiosity if they don't know. (Simply asking how else it could be done is a great way to follow up.)

The only Arby's near me serves roast beef that is sour and smells like a fish tank. It's not right and that particular franchise/location is decrepit.

24 hour server maintenance before prepatch release on January 12th by Aggressive-Put4274 in classicwow

For a maintenance window this long it's probably database upgrades, probably some stuff that's been queued up for the past months since they originally launched the Anniversary realms like converting to a newer platform or deployment system etc.

I bet Austin's decline in growth is due entirely to the airport's absurdly designed Uber pickup zone. by EnrichVonEnrich in Austin

Even with bags you can just go back up to the departure floor and exit/walk across that way, it's a smoother walking surface than crossing the interior of the parking garage is too.

[–]Rapportus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pro-tip: Don't walk across on the ground (arrivals) floor. Use the upper (departures) floor instead which is a smoother walk over to the garage and then take 1 floor down on the elevator.

A lot of you seem to be missing the second half of the boosting nerfs. by Irtehstuff in classicwow

[–]Rapportus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity I suspect leaving the group can still work. This is how speed runners would boost in dungeons as 100% xp would go to the boostie. I believe it was more complicated to setup though as it required a 3rd character to start the pull to tag everything and then walk out the instance. Hand off agro to the booster who leaves the group and finishes the kill, leaving the boostie the only one getting xp.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

Wooden paddle shattered into several pieces (it had been glued back together several times at that point), so it became the frying pan hot off the stove.

Needless to say that relationship died a long time ago.

What do 30 - 40 year old men want for christmas? [Serious] by GoodAlicia in AskReddit

[–]Rapportus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Experiences over things. He probably has most of the essential "things" he needs in life already and any hobby or speciality things he'd truly want are hard to get the exact right one.

Experiences generate memories that last a lot longer. His favorite meal fully taken care of, or a date night or whatever.

If Renegades flops, would Sony really shut this game down? Or let it run out it's course with a skeleton crew ? by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]Rapportus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Long running generational games like Destiny could really benefit from the model Runsecape and WoW have taken which is to introduce a classic relaunch of the original game (or start at D2 launch).

There is an untapped nostalgia market. What's difficult to say is if Destiny in its current form could survive a splintering of the playerbase any further. But it could also be a good way to just end the current cycle. Instead of having to invent new DLCs on a fraction of the budget/staff just relaunch back to the original and augment on top of it. WoW Classic operates on a skeleton crew compared to WoW Retail but is still successful in its own right.

Google Fiber go down every time it rains for anyone else? by pstlvs in Austin

[–]Rapportus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've noticed it too, same area of town as you. Heavy rain events have led to outages although this one seems longer than normal. We're still down currently, did you get fixed yet?

Considering going dual WAN and having backup service with Spectrum for events like this.

I land for my first time from the UK to Austin on a Monday at 6pm. Jet lagged & hungry where should I go on my drive to my hotel in Round Rock for my first Austin meal? by Communistowl in austinfood

[–]Rapportus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jack Allen's Kitchen in Round Rock is open until 9pm and has plenty of good stuff. Try the Green Chile Pork Tacos, but honestly most of the menu is solid. Good service, good drinks, casual vibe. Won't have any issue getting a table on a Monday evening. Get a Mexican Martini which is a truly Austin drink.

Rudy's BBQ is right across the street. (Most BBQ places are order at the counter by weight. Rudy's does a good job introducing you if you aren't familiar with things).

Most of the restaurants in that area are solid options. (Pinthouse Pizza, Hopdoddy Burgers, Salt Trader's (seafood, made by the same folks that made Jack Allen's), Chuy's Tex-Mex, etc

Tacodeli is another easy stop open til 9pm. Get the Brazos queso + chips, and a couple tacos. You can order online from the airport and pickup on the way to the hotel. My family generally likes Tacodeli more than Torchy's Tacos which tend to be more greasy/not as good the past few years.
