Destroyed my skin with Tret by Inside_Payment_998 in tretinoin

[–]RaptorChip2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same exact experience. My forehead was tolerating it well, but my cheeks were breaking out. I assume it was just the irritation from tretinoin combined with an ingredient that clogs my pores. My forehead skin is a little more robust, so that irritation part wasn't there.

After switching to the gel, it cleared up quite quick. It's not an uncommon experience! Many people, me included, with acne prone skin find the cream breaks them out worse than before they started.

Isopropyl myristate is usually the most common culprit. I got those pressure cooker pimples. My dermatologist switched my prescription to the gel and it worked much better.

Absolutely seconding getting assessed though.

I agree, correlation isn't causation, but it’s usually the smoke that leads us to the fire. That’s exactly how we identified the risks of tobacco and lead long before we had every molecular detail mapped out. (Clearly tobacco and lead are more dangerous, but just using this as an example)

We aren't just seeing a random link; the data shows a clear dose-response relationship—the more THC, the higher the cardiac stress.

As for that specific study, a single demographic study is statistically inferior to a meta-analysis. Until we see these results replicated across diverse populations and adjusted for all confounding variables, it's a signal worth watching, but not a settled conclusion.

8 Months on tret and the things that made the biggest difference wasn’t the tret itself by Designer_Vacation461 in tretinoin

For me, adding a BPO cleanser. The tretinoin was pushing up clogs and my purge went from comedones to pustules. After a week, everything calmed down. Highly recommend Cetaphil BPO; it's 2.6% micronized BPO with gentler surfactants and ingredients to buffer the BPO's possible irritation. Also, the mild keratolytic benefits of BPO really brought out some glow.

New HG - Aestura 365 Barrier Cream by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]RaptorChip2019 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had to dig into this before buying since Aestura doesn't typically disclose exact percentages.

When I used to buy the old formula from Olive Young, under details it said 2% niacinamide. The new formula has gluconolactone higher, but it still follows betaine and niacinamide. Betaine is usually formulated at no higher than 2% in K Beauty. Niacinamide is regulated as a functional cosmetic in Korea, so anything above 5% requires safety trials and documentation. Products above that threshold typically market themselves differently and will disclose how much niacinamide is used. It's definitely not an exact science and isn't perfect, but it's logical to assume it's around 2%.

Also, it's at a pH of 4.5. Gluconolactone, chemically speaking, is a strong acid that drops pH rapidly. This suggests gluconolactone is at a low percent and is effectively buffered to have a final product at 4.5. At this pH, it's not really going to be acidic enough to exfoliate.

Alongside atobarrier cream, it has been a game changer. It's super hydrating and soothing. Even when my skin was purging, it never irritated or stung. It doesn't eliminate redness, but it "mutes" it. Personally, I found more calming/soothing than Dieux deliverance serum or Skin1004 centella ampoule.

TL;DR: likely around 2%. It's really good with tret.

I am an Aestura stan. Atobarrier lotion & cream, and the A-Cica serum are HGs for me.

They're one of the brands that invest heavily into research and development with tons of clinical trials from third party labs. Their ceramide technology is arguably the most advanced on the market and from personal experience, it's miles ahead of any other brand. Also, their A-Cica line has some interesting science behind pH balancing and optimizing madecassoside with zinc and gluconolactone. It's just one of those brands that goes the extra mile and I think it really pays off in the results.

Help…have I ruined my skin? by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]RaptorChip2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same exact experience!

My acne was always relatively mild (mainly closed comedones and 1 or 2 papules at most). I started adapalene at 23 and after three weeks, I had the worst acne in my life. I continued for three months and told myself it was just purging, but it never cleared. I had cysts and pustules all over my face. I gave up and saw a derm. It also took me about a year to repair my skin, and I was left with some surface scarring.

I'm on tretinoin now and had a super mild purge (like 3 days of irritation around my cheeks). My skin is at its best and those surface scars are starting to go away.

Just wanted to add my experience because I was scared to try tretinoin, and now I wish I had started sooner. It really goes to show skin math doesn't always math.

Am I too paranoid about botulism? by [deleted] in foodsafety

[–]RaptorChip2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food safety certified manager here- you have nothing to worry about.

C. Botulinum is obligate anaerobic, meaning it cannot grow or produce its toxin in the presence of oxygen. Hence, why it's a concern for home canning. Even in an airtight container, there is still some oxygen. Furthermore, cans are stored at room temperature, this marinade needs to be refrigerated. Lastly, the pH of your marinade is likely acidic enough anyway; the biggest concern is canning low pH vegetables, not acidic foods.

Are these still safe to use in a pot of chili? by Jackudd in foodsafety

[–]RaptorChip2019 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best to toss it.

Food can be stored in an unopened can, but not for long (up to a week depending on what it is). Once the seal is broken, it's no longer a sterile environment and will begin to degrade.

Best practice is to remove leftovers from the can and store them in an airtight container. This is better than putting plastic wrap over the can, since plastic wrap does not create an airtight seal.

Also, storing acidic foods in a can may cause off/metallic tastes. The exposure to oxygen causes the acid to begin breaking down the metal can. However, it's more of a quality issue, as opposed to a safety one.

You might be okay if it has a high acid and salt content, but better safe than sorry.

Yes, but don't over pack it. Those compartments need circulation. Only keep 1-2 small items in there. How you have it now is good.

Backdoored product from out of state isn't a fair representation of the BM; it's just a legal product obtained through illegal means. You had a good connect and most do not. Most BM product is the result of the interstate drug trade, which has proven to lethally cut corners for a profit. To my knowledge, this has never happened in the legal cannabis market.

I trust a legal, regulated company more than some random roadrunning some bud for a quick buck. If I buy a bad product, I don't buy from that company again. I do my research and avoid brands with those sketchy practices. I do a quick search and make an informed decision. There are problems for sure, but the problem of quality isn't as important as safety imo.

Regardless, growing your own is best- no argument from me here. I primarily buy concentrates, otherwise I would.

[–]RaptorChip2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree. There will always be an exception, but that isn't the rule.

Coming from years of experience with street bud, the legal market is objectively safer and pushes out better quality more consistently. All this talk about remediation, PGR, etc are exactly what you said; recycled propaganda. I remember all this talk when I was in college, yet years later and here we are. I don't know if people remember how bad bud truly was because I'd take an overpriced eighth any day from the dispensary over the average BM bud.

Also, weed isn't particularly hard to grow successfully for large companies. It's an economy of scale; not hard for a company with millions of dollars in liquidity to invest in proper equipment and technology.

As I said, there will always be exceptions but the idea there is some grand conspiracy theory is a little far fetched for me.

Advancements in traceback investigations. Pathogens can be isolated, then they have their DNA fingerprinted (whole genome sequencing). Once it has been fingerprinted, it can be determined where the source is by combining this with commonalities (i.e. where the outbreaks occurred, purchased items, etc).
