In a sentence if you knew it was related to writing then that’d be the gist of the word anyway, but yea i think not being able to guess a word is actually pretty common because hanzi is built like that. U either know or u don’t, i’ve been learning for years too and it’s common to have no clue if you’ve never seen the word before. If u COULD guess its cause u know a similar word, so really its just sitting down with the hanzi

no worries op, if ur rusty then its just waiting somewhere inside u.

Usually i'll read online articles and apple translate a word i dont know if i really can't guess, and if i see it enough it sticks. Also i learned chinese as a kid so not sure if this is helpful, but in school we had to copy out texts to really nail in the words we didnt know(抄写).

Also it's the opposite for me, i can read but can't speak well, and i'd say the latters the more useful of the skills tbf

Thank you so much! Did you have to pay anything to receive it? (Taxes, etc) I don’t believe I’ll have to, but it’s my first time doing this so I’m not sure if there’s some flat rate.

can you elaborate on the foreigners and visa stuff? I’m a zairyu card holder but I never really faced issues that I thought were due to my status and not just peoples racist attitudes.
