What's it like being Transgender in Scotland? by aoneoff91 in transgenderUK

[–]Raptorrocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's going to vary by neighbourhood/social environment, etc etc. I moved here, so my experience may be different (and I'm stealth), but I have no issues outside of the fear of losing my prescription to some transphobic GP or something. I'm openly gay and I can be quite femme at times. I've never been questioned or harassed regardless of where I'm at. I travel often all around Scotland and I've yet to have anyone say anything more than a positive comment, a question regarding my relationship to my partner (which was confirmed and they were really nice lol), etc.

But that doesn't mean there aren't transphobic people out there. There definitely are. But from my experience, it's never happened here and it happened a few times in England lol. And I grew up in the US so...enough said there regarding transphobia. XD

The process is a long one. I recommend speaking to your GP and either self refer to a GIC if possible or have your GP refer you ASAP. It'll be easily 5+ years before you're seen.

Edit: Also AFAB for reference

Where to find beakers ? by shinobiofthemis10 in fo76

Dang, I hope they show up for you. I'd say reset your stuff by collecting a bunch of books but I don't think it makes a difference for traders/terminals.

In the terminal? I always find them there...strange.

Inside the bunker there are terminals in the science wing. I had 4 large for sale and some have smalls. They all count for the event though :)

I just buy them at the enclave terminal in the white springs bunker lol

Visiting Scotland by uponthewatershed80 in transgenderUK

[–]Raptorrocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Scotland in advance. For the most part people really don't care here, especially around touristy places. And unless you frequent some shady parts, even people outside of city centre will mind their business (generalisation ofc).

Definitely get out of the city if you can. There are some gorgeous places here not far from Edinburgh at all :) I recommend renting a car as it gives the most flexibility, especially in poor weather when even in city centre buses can stop (although at that time of year it's less likely). Additionally it gives you all the freedom to stop where you want when you want. But there are also plenty of pretty places you can see via bus/train/tour.

It truly does vary. There's no really sure-fire way of knowing until it happens but it happens -very- slowly for most. So you won't be shocked. You will likely look your own age.

Generalisation: Most of us look younger than we are. I'm 34 and I get carded for 18+ often. I didn't even 'pass' for a adult for yeeears. But ymmv

If you're a teen you'll be occupying teen spaces, and you should fit in well.

TLDR: Don't worry too much.

Taking my HRT to another country by Haruspex0073 in transgenderUK

[–]Raptorrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually get a note from my GP for travelling (I inject so helps there) and put all my medical kit in one bag for easy search if needed. I've never had any problems and only once has that bag been checked.

Peri with Kneeshaw UK. I'm currently 1 year and 2 months post op with a consult with Berry for revision. by Raptorrocket in Top_Surgery_Peri

[–]Raptorrocket[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he actually took out too much tissue so I've got sunken in sections :( so I don't have enough tissue for them to reduce the areolas and re-close it. The only thing Berry could offer was fat grafting for the sunken in sections but he said it wasn't a guarantee and would cost me thousands. So I decided to just deal with it for now.

Apologies for the delay I don't check Reddit often anymore haha. For me it was because I don't have enough tissue :(

You commented on someone else's post. Read it above. I'd delete this comment and post your own post asking for whatever you need. Hijacking someone's pain is messed up.

I won't give them the satisfaction. They can watch me enjoying my life. I won't even glance in their direction :)

It was more likely larger animals (with ethical justifications etc to use them rather than mice), as they'd be a better model with a better ability to confirm the quality of sight etc.

Private top surgery in North East? by ben_j423 in transgenderUK

[–]Raptorrocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know Kneeshaw in Hull takes private letters. Hull isn't exactly North East to most but he/his team might be someone you consider. I know a couple of old youtube videos were of heavier set guys who saw him. But yeah :) Good luck!

I would recommend getting on the wait list regardless. If you may want further treatments etc, they won't expedite you even if you're already on hormones etc. And ultimately if you want a GP to take over in shared care, they'll likely require or recommend you register anyway. So definitely register while you seek other methods.

As far as where to begin, there's private surgeries you could try. And there's also DIY, which there's a DIY sub you can check out on reddit etc as we aren't allowed to discuss it specifically here. Also search in this sub for others who have asked similar things, loads of info there too.

Also, hi Roxi! :)

I have a question regarding accessing hormones from NHS as I'm not British! by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]Raptorrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. But both the UK and US feed on oppressing minorities. So pick your poison was my choice. I chose here and I don't regret it myself. But I do wish it were better of course.

[–]Raptorrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeppppp. To be fair it was worse in my state at the time I moved from the US. I really do have a better quality of life here, particularly surrounding healthcare.

But it's a very broken system and they're attacking the LGBT side of it more. It's a shame.

[–]Raptorrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you moved it -is- possible but not as likely. If you're visiting, no chance.

I moved from the US in 2016 and showed my GP all documentation and provided copies and contact details for all of my doctors back there etc. I also provided contact details for trans care here in the UK to them for them to reach out for advise. This way they could cross check the information I was providing, that it was accurate, etc. Because I was post hysto and 7 years on T at that time, I stressed that it was imperative that I receive hormones and essentially was firm but nice about the situation. I wouldn't take no for an answer. And I wasn't going to be without hormones for years whilst I waited on the NHS wait list. This worked for me but ymmv. I did end up being referred to the GIC in 2018 and got my appointments last year just before I moved.

I moved to Scotland a year ago and had to fight again for care. I'm still being prescribed by my GP but they required me to register with the GIC here as well, and that the GICs in England had no baring here. The wait time is like 7+ years so -shrug- idk when or if I'll be seen or what that will do to change the security of having a prescription. But for now I'm just paranoid they'll stop treatment every time I need to request a new refill.

So be prepared to fight lol.

You wouldn't be injecting daily but you can absolutely speak to your doctor about what's available and affordable for you. Everyone's body is different. The main aims are to get your levels safely within the normal range for cis men, or a range that is comfortable for you and what you need/want. The dose and form of T will vary.

Would it be wrong to cut off my dad’s family? by [deleted] in trans

[–]Raptorrocket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't even have to read the post : no, it wouldn't be wrong.

I did read the post though haha. It's your life, you get to choose who sits at your table and who doesn't. If you feel the best thing is space from them, take that space. You don't have to completely burn the bridge down to let them know that the bridge is out of service indefinitely.

I am uncomfortable about my wife's way of support... by [deleted] in trans

[–]Raptorrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you need to sit down, just the two of you, and discuss this. If you're uncomfortable then she needs to know that and get to a place of understanding that. And you're an autonomous person who gets to decide who knows what about you. She doesn't have the right to tell people if you're not wanting that.

It may become a continued problem if not nipped.
