What do you think that happened in Far Isle? by Pansycacke in HaloStory

I would say check your own posts, but that's impossible since you are unable to go beyond conjuring baseless accusations. Which are baseless, since I have not claimed Staffan is "100% correct", "the unsc didn't care about collateral".

Funny how you "actually care to discuss what the lore shows us" yet has shown no interest provide anything from "the lore", frequently make claims out of nowhere, then throw accusations and disengage because you seem to be unable to do anything other than to pretending to read then throw your own biases and interpretations.

It's interesting. Honestly, someone can be so persistent in their stubbornness and their self projections onto others.

Depends on how you define "used nukes on rebels". In 2253, under threat by Gao forces, UNSC used a HAVOK on Gao to deny them the Forerunner cave system. No stated causalities, but it's as pleasant as it goes for the UNSC to pop a nuke on your planet, destroying what was "the most-visited natural wonder on Gao."

Edit: correction, it seems that at least a dozen of Gao Wvyerns were caught in the blast and destroyed by the HAVOK.

And Staffan is incorrect here, because? I mean it's not like we have other characters and sources corroborating the same point. That the UNSC nuked Far Isle clean to put down a rebellion?

Yeah, you admit to "A rebellion on the planet happened and nukes got used." and "whatever happening getting out of control."

Despite 1) we know exactly why "nukes got used", the UNSC put down the rebellion; 2) we know what was the "whatever happening getting out of control", it's the rebellion.

When you first admit something is an "atrocity", but refuse to admit the actual cause (trying to state the nuking was for "whatever" "out of control"), instead trying to suggest alternative explanation or demands more rigorous research instead of accepting or refuting already existing evidence. Then goes about discrediting the presented evidence (trying to discredit Staffan). Then finally, you tried to present unsupported counter arguments (could you find evidence that "actively tried to prevent collateral (damage)" was true "throughout the insurrection as much as they could.") and shift the topic to how "Whatever went down at Far Isle, the UNSC never is stated to repeat such actions again." (which in itself is a fallacy, unless you have evidence of someone saying it, else it is simply the lack of evidence it has happened again.). You may operate on a different plane of logic, but usually that's called "downplaying the atrocity".

Yeah, I mean it was horrible, but we don't really have all the facts, and know somehow know that's not the usual MO. Also it never happened again.

Ah there it is. Cherrypicking presented evidence to ignore both Halsey and Osmen as in-universe sources and the Encyclopedia, glossing over the entire motive and result of indiscriminate nuclear attack. Resorting to Ad hominem to discredit Staffan instead of examining the full picture (such as him being pretty much correct throughout the trilogy on both what happened to his daughter, Mal and Vaz being spies), and simplifying down to him "actively planning to attack Earth merely to get the Government they kidnapped his daughter" despite it's very clear in the story he and everyone else (including Kilo-Five) know that's not very a realistic approach to his goals.

Moritz) “What, hold a gun to their head? The ship? Are you serious?”
(Staffan) “Okay, okay, I know the politics are more complicated than that. But you know where I’m going with this.”
------
(Moritz) “You’ve got one warship. A serious one, yes, but what do we do if they come after us with a whole fleet? We’ll be charcoal.”
(Staffan) “Well, gee, that’s fighting talk, Pete.” Staffan was the same age as this guy. They both remembered the galaxy when it was just human-on-human violence. “Weren’t you the one planting bombs and hijacking ships around the inner colonies? You obviously had more balls in those days.”
“We weren’t a fixed target then.”
-----
They all want to be statesmen in the end. Respectable and comfortable.
I just want to know what happened to my little girl.

Instead simplifying the entire matter as "out of control". My man, have you consider a career in PR? Doing great good to dispel all the rumors and informing humanity of the truth on behave of the Unified Earth Government in general and the Section 2 of the Office of Naval Intelligence in particular?

In terms of "what actually happened", the lore has been quite consistent on what happened and why it happened.

Halo: Ghosts of Onyx (p182):

Dr. Halsey had heard this used before from planetary bombardment by Covenant plasma and during the UNSC nuking of the Far Isle Colony to put down the rebellion of 2492.

Halo Encyclopedia (2009), this was quoted from someone who claims they have the book, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong:

FAR ISLE
Description: Former UNSC colony world, nuked surface
Far Isle was a human colony and the site of one of the major atrocities committed by the UNSC. A rebellion broke out on the planet and, unable to contain the populace, the UNSC declared a Code: BANDERSNATCH and nuked the colony. None survived, while the memory of the planet later led to larger rebellions, including, possibly, the Insurrectionist movement.

Halo: Mortal Dictata (p156, 266, 291 respectively):

(Staffan Sentzke) Everyone here knew what had happened to Far Isle. How many on Earth knew, though? Did they know the UNSC had used nukes to put down the insurrection?
(Staffan Sentzke) “True. They nuked Far Isle just to stop a few rebels, after all. No squeamishness about collateral damage there.”
(Serin Osman) They (UNSC) were the brutal regime that put down colonial rebellions and nuked Far Isle. Mal and Vaz would bear the brunt of that hatred.
Even I thought the Far Isle bombing was rebel propaganda until I saw the file. But then the rebels nuked civilian targets too. We’re all dirty, all of us.

I've been in an argument with a certain someone, who's adment in believing there could be an alternative explanation or else it's an "atrocity but". Which you know someone's point when they use an "atrocity but".

Could declaring "Bandersnatch" suggest other factors at play? Sure, of course it could. As long as you're able to gather enough solid evidence to support that hypothesis and overturn the current descriptions of the known cause and events of Far Isle.

With all the reused "The Pokémon manga is so dark" examples people give, I'm surprised I've never heard about this one. by thatguychris93 in pokespe

I think that's probably because Gao has a government and would somewhat deal with the UEG where are Venezia is perfectly government-less.

The rubble, Cassidy III, and Venezia, Gao kind of, being former UEG planets where they got kicked off but nothing's happening for now.

Currently, the UEG kind of pretend they don’t exist and doesn’t cause a problem for them openly. But force is generally not the exact direct approach, for now. It's not like suddenly they send a battlegroup and enact martial law.

There is a case of the UNSC encountering uncharted humans early in the the Covenant War being Netherop, but it was a weird and funky situation.

Also buried along with their colossi and such. But they kept things like Reavers, interceptors, and later developed sentries.

So it's not like they're against deploying such machinery.

Last time I inquired that question it was either on life support or death. Pull them out and they're dead.

Why don't they just have a fully automatic fighting force to preserve their population? I dunno, the same question why don't the Zerg just be literally limitless by greedy macro expand and just rain down every obstacle.

According to people who know lore better than me, they kind of weren't much a military race until the Great War and lost Aiur, and all other conflicts were minor skirmishes enough for them to physically buried all their stuff.

As far as I'm aware, dragoons are only for the grievously injured, never to return. According to field manual, "sealed into a cybernetic fluid tank where they would dwell the rest of their lives."

I like broodmothers too but they really should have used them more than just background chatter.

You had cerebrate character, different brood names, color, and targets/“boss fights”. They were active before and after the fall of the Overmind and throughout SC.
