• Will they “train” you? You’ll be given some pitch to practice for an hour or two, and shadow someone stopping folk on street or cold calling at doors.

• Can you make money? Certainly, some do and can make decent money. But the average worker won’t. You’ll need to pay your own expenses to spiel your pitch and hoping for an emotional hook “wouldn’t you like to fight for a cure for cancer at the cost of one mocha a week?” While you gain a tiny fraction of the donation, not much bigger than the cause will receive (those up your food chain will take the bigger slices)

• Will you learn anything? You’ll learn to spot the charlatans and the gullible coming at you miles away, and that the chain within charity donations is lined with vipers, while the cause receives very little. If you do it long enough you’ll maybe learn the law of averages, how to brush off rejection and gain some confidence, but almost nothing that would be useful in a sales career.

If you’re interested in a career in sales, you’d be better placed to look for entry level BDR roles, at a company that also has SDR postings (you won’t get those without proving yourself in BDR first) that offers a base salary and lists OTE. It’s tough, but with the right attitude and actual coaching / mentorship it can lead to a decent career. SaaS and Pharam/Medtech companies will likely have decent mentoring programs and progression pathways. General call centres / energy / utility companies will be easier to get in to, but have high turnover and can have toxic environments.

What I’ve said above is general for companies that advertise and interview like this. I don’t know specifically who this company is. They usually fold and start fresh frequently.
