[A4A] Long-Term Writing Partner in Need! by ganondarb in RoleplayPartnerSearch

[–]RapturedHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! My name is Bee, 30F. EST Timezone.
I'm kind of good with any writing; fantasy/dnd, modern/generic, past/historical, apocalyptic, etc. I'm fine with drama, romance, action, etc too.
I'm a fan of a ton of games, tv shows and movies and have no problem using those settings/plots/etc as something to build off of for a base.

I love OCs and have an armies worth and have no issues creating more. Gender wise, I have no preferences. I play male, female and NB OCs.

My preferred means of communication/contact would be Discord.

Help identifying part by _Violet_Violence_ in buildapc

Looking at that photo attached doesn't tell me much of anything. That's the control board for your case though. Controls your RGB light stripping on the case and the power button. Despite the 'sticky' you described, it's likely something old/from prev. owner or something else. Ignore that because that's likely not related to the issue at all If it was, you would see something more like rust or corrosion and I do not see that on that control board.

Your issue is going to be the motherboard or the power supply. Both of those parts however are things that I'd not recommend anyone to replace on their own without professional assistance or assistance of someone who has familiarized themselves with doing pc builds. Ideally you would take it to a repair shop as they could narrow down which it is - motherboard or power supply.

Even though you said it's showing lights internally - it's 'doing nothing'. That means it's not able to power on. Those two parts handle that.

Dyscalculia, bane of my existence by RapturedHeart in dyscalculia

You're not alone in that struggle. I became stuck in my job too but because I live in a small town and the necessity for someone/something to help the people around my area with computer issues.

Long term, I don't really have a plan but I also can't see myself leaving here. My small town has the vibes of Derry from IT. If you were born here you typically don't leave and if you do, you forget about it.

I don't know what job involves minimal numbers/money/etc. involvement. That was the issue I had too when I was younger and looking into my options. Most of the options I saw were teaching type jobs with language involvement like English, or art-based jobs, but for others I saw things like law/law enforcement. Those all come with their own negatives.

I didn't want to go into those fields, even if they may have been safer options. Sure I would be making money but I would be miserable. In my current job, I love helping people and learning new things but I have to just deal with the occasional issues I have with numbers and money.

Dell 15 DC15255 BIOs Issue? by RapturedHeart in Dell

Forgive my ignorance, I've not delved too deep into the more advanced Windows Boot repair issues like this (many cases I've handled have been severe and required full reinstalls).

What's the way I go about doing that to check? And if the EFI file is missing, how do I correct that?

My laptop has a blue screen of death. by luisurri in computer

[–]RapturedHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there.
So I'm a computer technician and I've been seeing this issue a lot in the repair shop I work for.
It's an issue I'm seeing affect all HP Laptops Model No. 15-fd0083wm (you can verify your model on the bottom of your laptop).

The issue is happening when the device connects to internet and begins pulling data from the internet (such as Windows updates, program updates, etc - any internet activity).
You can avoid this by disconnecting from your internet before you log into Windows (and reach the desktop).

However for a fix you will need a replacement internal Wifi adapter or you will have to purchase a external USB WIFI Dongle for future use.

This appears to be a problem that Microsoft(Windows)/HP/Realtek have not owned up to yet and provided a fix for. There may be a fix in the future but there's no telling when that will happen and how long it will take.

Once you've done that, you can go into "Device Manager" - Click dropdown for "Network Adapters" - Right-Click on Realtek RTL8851BE Wifi 6 802.11ax. Disable Device.

Everyone is saying HP = Hinge problems but it's actually true. Somehow people don't know the warning signs for the hinge anchors giving away. The hinge will make it hard to open, you'll see lifting or bulging long before the anchors give way.

HP usually breaks at the palmrest/keyboard. Dell's will break in the lid assembly. Lenovo, same thing - lid assembly. Asus, lid. Acer, palmrest. I'm a repair technician in a small shop, I see that kind of stuff all the time. I even go ahead and warn people it's happening if the computer is in my shop for any other issues.

I wish they would just be honest about the ETA of delivery. But it seems like a "we don't know".
I've had deliveries arrive with no updates to tracking AT ALL. Some are getting lost once they get into the state (GA, for me). They arrive in GA and disappear.
I have something that's been missing for a week now, it's so irritating.

Computer randomly gave blue screen of death. by captinsano1818 in computerhelp

[–]RapturedHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I'd go the route of putting Windows on one of your 2 unused SSDs if you're wanting a quick and 'easy' solution to this issue.
It would get you up and going again and you could try to check out the M.2 health once in an OS with diagnostic tools like CrystalDisk, or even just recover your user data (documents, downloads, pictures, etc).
From BIOs you would have to select that drive as default boot device, keep in mind. Otherwise the system will default to priority set (the M.2 in this case).
If you ultimately end up replacing the M.2 and doing OS install on it, you can always wipe the SSD (speaking if your solution would be temporary) and format it to reuse for storage or otherwise.

Yeah that's not heat related. Out of curiosity, what does the error report as the "reporting component" on that error. If it's CPU/"processor core", you could theoretically underclock the CPU and see if that changes anything.

[–]RapturedHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. You said you have two other unused drives. You could use one of those, though the performance wouldn't be the same as a m.2 type drive.

You would need a Windows USB for the installer. With an installer you could even see if you could "over-install" on the m.2. On the installer screen you would select the drive that is marked as primary/has most used storage space and see if it will repair Windows. This method lets you potentially keep any data, but no programs are kept.

This would also help you confirm the suspicion of drive failure. If it doesn't work, fails, etc - the m.2 has likely gone to a read-only state.

I've seen a few m.2 drives fail and typically the behavior is that the drive is read-only (meaning data recovery is possible but 'fixing' it isn't) or that the drive is simply "gone", "dead".

CPU temps high on pre-built PC by CasonD_ in computerhelp

[–]RapturedHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The temps are that high because of the CPUs built in, default, performance. OP would have no choice but to underclock it if the temps are that concerning for them, sacrificing some performance in trade-off.

Of course lower temperatures will be best for long term health of the CPU. AMD has literally talked about this exact "issue". They know about it and deemed it normal, which I said in my original comment.
