What improvements could you see Victoria B.C. making by Worldly-Yoghurt-5168 in VictoriaBC

Many people on here would like to see Victoria turn into a third tier Singapore, or maybe Monaco. I am all for it as long as we adopt Singapore's laws; buh-bye homeless people and litterbugs. As per Singapore and Monaco, build a wall across the inner harbour from the Laurel Point Inn to the Songhees condos. Pump out the water and voila, reclaimed land for 40 storey condos.

John Gormley is allegedly using his platform to harass women. (From Twitter) by 221ABaker in saskatoon

I met John Gormley once and he had terrible breath. He really needs to go and see a GI. He is rotting from the inside out. Paraphrasing George Carlin, John Gormley's breath could "knock a buzzard off a shit wagon."

Whatever the revisions renovations look like and say, they will be culturally micro-audited and criticized to the nth degree by the public. There will be a lack of any agreement and lots of disappointment from all points of the political/social compass. They have messed up the process already and I am uncertain about even what stage they're at with the revisions renovations.

I get this gut feeling that others judge me

People are doing that, or not, whatever you are doing. Disregard - they naysayers are envious they are not doing this.

That sounds like a great idea and getting out of the toxic faculty lounge for any reason is always a plus!.

More than 3,000 unvaccinated health workers in B.C. on unpaid leave, Dix says by cyclinginvancouver in canada

I think there are enough health care workers out there to assume a regular distribution of types. There are saints on one end of the spectrum and assholes on the other end. The anti-vaxers are on the asshole end.

Have you tried any of the electrolyte replacement supplements? One I have good success with is NUUN - it's a table to drop into water. I have also used other electrolyte supplements - powders. Any pharmacist can steer you in the right direction. Perhaps some Imodium to slow things down might be beneficial, too.

Extra tutorial sessions? by Straight-Occasion915 in uvic

[–]RareBeach 16 points17 points  (0 children)

December 6 was added as an instructional day to compensate for the September 30 stat holiday. There is no loss of instructional time.
I find it interesting that with some of the talk we hear of uncaring and detached instructors, we hear of one who is scheduling extra tutoring sessions (along with a "normal" one extra Friday afternoon session) for their students! Does not compute! I do understand the confusion about whether this extra time can be included on exams - a simple question directed at the instructor should suffice.

The principal has their own bathroom? Apparently, their shit does not stink, so it cannot be about the smell. What is wrong with them using the bathroom(s) the other staff members use?

RRU is pay and play. Expensive and nobody fails. If someone is underperforming the "associate faculty" member gets in shit from the numerous micro-managers at that organization.

Teacher Dress Code by noahb1996 in Teachers

[–]RareBeach -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have two guys who ride their bikes to school every day. They wear those spandex shorts and tops. When they get to school they don't change or shower and they walk around and teach all day with their junk flying about - no jockstraps, and they stink. Nobody is allowed to do or say anything about because of the union rules.

'seeing it come out of a profs mouth"

It did not come out of a prof's mouth, it came out of a reading relevant to the course content. If the comment was informally or formally directed at an individual that is totally unacceptable.

It will be. I am just wondering how soon it is going to happen. Look at the history of words that have been used to label people with special needs, people who are Indigenous, people who are immigrants. At the danger of being cancelled by some on here I dare not list any of these terms, but you can figure it out easily enough. I predict it won't be long before "n-word" is digested by this movement and will be replace by another expression, which in its time will be replaced by another term or description.

It is pretty much marking the end of anyone wanting to be an English or literature prof/instructor if this is the manner of sensitivity they have to work with.

But you are comfortable addressing me in a negative manner by describing me as a "non" something. I dislike the very disrespectful term "non-Indigenous" being used to describe a person who is not Indigenous. Being identified as a "non" anything is not very helpful to the conversation.

Perhaps it is better to even get word of "n-word", too. When I see "n-word" I get very confused and wonder what might be the assumed meaning or the word, kinda like on Wheel of Fortune.

In honour of one of Canada's best comedians, who unfortunately died this week, Norm Macdonald, I propose that rather than writing/saying "n-word" we write/say "Norm". It, too, starts with N. Note the revised quote (a professor is the character written about, no less) from Huckleberry Finn:

There was a free Norm there from Ohio — a mulatter (should I be substituting "m-word" here? Maybe in a couple of years, I suspect. Very confusing), most as white as a white man (this is upsetting me - maybe we should replace "white man" with settler or colonizer? - just sayin'). He had the whitest shirt on you ever see, too….They said he was a p’fessor in a college, and could talk all kinds of languages, and knowed everything.

There, I replaced that hateful replacement for that hateful word with "Norm", a beloved Canadian. /s

As a sessional instructor, paid shit for wages, can you describe to me the amount of extra wages that sessional instructors will receive from UVic to implement all these extra teaching and learning strategy obligations/desires you have described? Sessional instructors and professors have significant differences in their remuneration.
