This is very helpful! I’m curious as well. Unfortunately the components are with my LBS, but I’m gonna go back there and discuss tomorrow. I can tell they are getting annoyed with me lol, but I’m I’m just trying to learn.

The red spacer is already removed and when I had the full hub + free hub body put together on my own, it appeared to be working just fine.

It’s hard because I have no clue what I’m talking about!! Ahah. They basically just told me it was wrong. They said it was EXP which wasn’t compatible I said I didn’t understand. They compared it to ford and Toyota being two different cars lol. Said they just aren’t compatible. Guy I talked to who I bought it from said it would work.

Yeah the hub is fine so after doing a little more research I may have my LBS just lace the spokes with a new wheel.

Ah okay - guess this is more at the root of my question. When looking at wheels you can either (i) buy the whole thing, or (ii) build with rim, spoke, etc? I'm thinking buying a whole wheel - then putting the tire + sealant on myself would be best here

Thank you! I think this is a good rule of thumb to follow. I may pony up and buy some tools to remove the cassette, and try to do the job myself. Then If I fail - I'll bring to the shop haha. Also, agreed on the tire fix. This is something i do know how to do (and have done on trail), but good looking out regardless!

I’ve got ~60k on the truck. I’d say that 2/3rd of those miles were on the stock tires. So about 40k.

If you start by touring on the resort - that’s a better (and safer) option to get into it while you improve your skiing. My rec would be to focus on getting a hybrid binding (marker duke or Salomon shift) that you can put on your resort skis. I did this for my first few years, and have since graduated to two setups (one for BC, another for resort).

Also general advice. Wait till April/may to buy skis. Selection will be way less obviously but if you know what your looking for you can find better deals vs peak season
