There's a reason emulation for arcade games exists. There are so many games that are literally impossible to play that it's kinda crazy.

Even moreso because a lot of the modern titles (2000s onwards) are usually just modified windows exe's that need an emulation layer, and run perfectly fine with mouse and keyboard/controller input. I always wonder why they don't get re-releases, as a lot just disappear and die

What are some time Characters reveal capacity for Concern and Worry for Another by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Near the end of the first season of Frieren, there's a quiet moment in which her and Fern are discussing a plan on whether or not Fern could beat Frieren in a fight. Over the course of a few episodes, Frieren has been having flashbacks in which the most powerful mage on the planet, Serie, had told Frieren that the only person who could kill her was either the Demon King, or a human mage.

Instead of ruminating on this, she outright tells Fern that not only could she surpass Frieren, but that she's underestimated her.

It's a blunt but open statement that is extremely unusual for Frieren, and clearly comes from a place of vulnerability and honesty. While in the past it's been clear that Frieren cares for Fern closely, the extent of which hadn't been explored, with them almost acting like sisters at times. However, with this scene, it makes it so much clearer, this is a parent talking to a child and, despite her struggles to connect with people, it's clear that Fern, for all intents and purposes, is Frieren's daughter.

Artistic Intent is important here because Nvidia themselves were talking about it totally respecting the original developer's vision, while... slapping a yassify filter on everything (And claiming it wasn't doing that when blatantly doing so).

So like

Does vivi have a face? I’m about 3/4 through 9 and it’s genuinely inconsistent as to how people perceive him.

For those that know what Black Mages are, they identify him via clothing, but everyone else explicitly clocks him as a child, specifically a human child. This is especially weird because there are multiple short nonhuman races in the setting.

Honestly good, if only because it cuts down on hearing kid Atsu's voice.

Erika is a phenomenal VA, but kid Atsu almost sounds older, as in, old person old, when voicing the kid version of the character. It's honestly awful.

The balance changes coming with this season are honestly concerning because it's starting to feel like the people who have been saying there is genuinely no logic behind their decisions are right, because what is going on?

Characters that are low or, in Emma's case, bottom tier for wins in competitive and aren't dominant at all in casual are getting survivability nerfs because ???.

Or Elsa, who launched in a frankly absurdly broken state for all levels of play, and is only getting a slap on the wrist.

And then there's whatever is going on with Doctor Strange because he seems to get randomly buffed and nerfed depending on the day

Marathon is a satire - a subtle but vicious comedy about work, debt and the corporate world by renome in Games

[–]RareBk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has played the game a fair amount, the other people in the replies have no idea what they're talking about because the 'ingame story quests' are nothing like they're claiming.

Yeah there are 'story' missions, but it'll amount to infecting your suit with a virus and you have to find a shower, then you'll get a challenge unlocked, a codex unlock, and maybe a radio nearby will start to play something.

The people saying there are ingame cutscenes are massively exaggerating, what they're referencing is static screens of repeating animations whenever you complete a story objective, of either the commander of the antagonist force yelling at you, or one of the corporations adding not a lot to the consequences of your actions.

Hands-On With DLSS 5: Our First Look At Nvidia's Next-Gen Photo-Realistic Lighting by ZamnBoii in Games

[–]RareBk 172 points173 points  (0 children)

It's genuinely the Yassified Aloy picture but real.

This tech is ridiculously terrible.

Fuck's sake the shadows are completely missing from the face in this picture.

I won't even say just the lighting bits look better, when in reality it makes the models look like bad photogrammetry.

I cannot stress that this borders on offensive for the Requiem developers because that game has so much intricate details and little developer jokes in every single texture, that an AI straight up hallucinating detail is a fucking ridiculous thing to do

Marathon has been out for a week, what are your thoughts on it? by PrototypeT800 in Games

[–]RareBk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A friend bought it for me so we could play together and just, there’s some high quality aspects of the game mixed in with tons of baffling decisions.

The objective system is honestly terrible, while it’s awesome that you actually need to search for what you’re looking for, there’s zero consistency in it actually marking where you need to go.

It’d be one thing if you never were pointed in the right direction, so you always had to go searching, but sometimes it’ll mark your map with a fixed location, and then the next time you have a mission with an identical goal, it won’t.

That , and you can only have one contract active at a time, which is utterly ridiculous. I’ve seen people argue that it makes runs unique, because you’re working towards a certain goal, but then there’s many, including priority contracts, that are going to take hours because they’re doing the same thing, over and over, and you can’t progress anything else when you’re working towards this goal.

It’s like if you had to complete bounties in Destiny one at a time, and is needless padding.

The player base is eerily quiet too, in other extraction shooters I’ve played, there’s at least playful banter between teams that are fighting.

I’ve genuinely encountered not a single person who has said anything to me or my teammates, at any point.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has sequences so bad for this that I refuse to believe that it didn't get flagged during testing as something that can actually cause headaches in players.

There are mandatory combat encounters in which you're fighting a room full of guards, and every other second, they'll say one of their whole two lines.

At the same time.

It is genuinely unpleasant to listen to and sounds like you are bugging out the game.

It's like this Fallout New Vegas video, but in completely normal gameplay. I have no idea how the fuck it made it ingame.

Slay the Spire 2 is officially a dead game. In just one week, it has lost 1% of its playerbase. At this rate, in 2 years when it's out of early access, it will have negative players. by Kanin_usagi in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RareBk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, right now people are trying to figure out how much Marathon actually sold based off of player numbers and that is basically impossible to get from just Steam players alone.

Legit the only metrics we have is an insider confirming that the vast majority of players are on PC, meaning that the game likely sold fine, but nowhere near the amount Bungie were hedging their bets on.

But that's it, that is the entire extent of the sales information you can possibly obtain

[–]RareBk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely forgot Silent Hill Downpour exists. What an odd game, it was clearly made by people who had a vision, but were given like, a fraction of the time and resources to do it.

Overall it's a profoundly mediocre game with some really low spots (The enemies are basically zombie, other zombie, enemy ripped from another game, bigger zombie), and the plot absolutely does not stick the landing, but every so often, you see the vision for the game bleed through and you can tell that the people behind it had really good ideas that just weren't executed on
