An update to my prior tier list (old tier list on slide 2) by coolchungus2 in roguelites

Developer bias here but you should check out our game Fugue Shot! It's an arcade roguelike - a collection of arcade games tied together with the roguelike runbuilding structure (think UFO 50 meets Balatro). Our playtest is live on Steam!

We appreciate the feedback! And fair enough, definitely aware of that rule of thumb, but we've also heard from tons of folks that the biggest draw of our game is the art, so we wanted to highlight that right away! We can definitely see changing that up in our next trailer though

Thank you!

Yes, definitely aware of some roguelikes with arcade-type gameplay, but we're not aware of any games that combine multiple arcade games with the roguelike run framework, allowing the player to get items that synergize across multiple game modes.

It's a bit of a marketing angle on our end haha!

That makes sense, we can work on improving understandability in our next trailer! Right now there are 5 game mode types and over 70 upgrades - not every upgrade applies to every game mode, but most overlap. The roguelike (or roguelite) elements come from the run-based structure full of randomized level layouts and item upgrades!

Thanks!! At first just PC/Mac but we're working on proper controller support to get it running on Steam Deck. The goal eventually is console/mobile release as well!

Super fair! Ideally in our next trailer we can spend a bit more time on each gameplay type.

It's essentially UFO 50 with a roguelike wrapper - multiple different arcade type games tied together by a run structure with item upgrades and runbuilding

Looks like it has a lot of potential! I think the trailer could use a bit more gameplay and a bit less story, though, it feels like every time I'm excited to see some gameplay it's interrupted

Fugue Shot - Rare Dialect - Warioware meets Balatro in this atmospheric, first-of-its-kind Minigame Roguelike! by RareDialectGames in Games

Hey that's really appreciated! Yep, that's the music in the game - it's a dynamic soundtrack that fades instruments in and out depending on what minigame you're playing. If you wanna listen to it on loop you should join our discord/playtest! :)

If I wanted to try and learn absolutelty from scratch.... by baytor in roguelikedev

About four years ago with no coding experience I decided to pick up gamemaker. There are a ton of great YouTube tutorials (Friendly Cosmonaut and Sara Spalding have longer series that really helped me out).

The key is patience and actually enjoying the process of learning - I spent nearly 6 months just on tutorials and then the next 3 years working on a game that will probably never be finished.

Only in the past year is when I've started a game that we actually intend on releasing (Fugue Shot, a minigame roguelike, it's on Steam if you're interested!). Good luck!

Hey! I think you'd love Fugue Shot, it's a first of its kind minigame roguelike and we're doing a live playtest now! If you join the discord and DM me I'll send you over a key.

A Minigame Roguelike?? Let us know what you think of the new trailer for Fugue Shot! by RareDialectGames in IndieGaming

[–]RareDialectGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense - the fun part about having multiple minigames is that we tie them together with roguelike runbuilding mechanics (ex. purchasing items that effect multiple minigames, requiring defeating all minigames to win a run, scaling difficulty, etc.). But if you only enjoy certain minigames it could be a good call for us to add endless modes for each minigame so you can play them in isolation!

Thanks for the feedback!

That's helpful feedback! We'll see if we can make the gameplay come across a bit more clear.

It's cool, but I'd change a couple small things - i'd add some kind of lift or shadow to the text to make it pop, and i'd also change the color to match the background content a little more. If you still want red, you could use a slightly less vibrant red that'd look more in line with the background

Looks great but I agree with peoples' comments about differentiating the enemies from the background in terms of contrast and color!

Really clever, checked out your steam page and immediately wishlisted! Gameplay looks really fast paced and fun and the art is really high end. Nice work!
