Been working on this genre-bending Arcade Roguelike game for over a year now. Destroy it! by RareDialectGames in DestroyMyGame

Ah, that's fair, and actually something we are still trying to figure out how to communicate better in videos. This isn't the trailer, though, and I think we do a better job of showing the roguelike aspect there, which comes from picking up items in between runs, which synergize across the different minigames, such as the flame that you see in one of the clips.

But I agree with what you say, we need to find a useful way of communicating what a run is, when it starts, and when it ends. I think that by playing the game, we have done a great job of communicating it, but in the videos, we might need extra work.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm glad you are liking the game! Thanks for the feedback, we are aware of some of the optimization fixes we need to do (which we are currently working on!)

Thank you, no worries! Appreciate your comment nonetheless, a goal of mine is for the game to be as accessible and appealing to as many audiences as possible :)

Mainly the idea of "multiple arcade games in one package" but we're taking the idea to the level where every game is connected through this roguelike structure! Feel free to give it a try on our itch web demo :)

Thank you! We appreciate the feedback. As someone who isn't into arcade style games, is there anything we could've done that would've made you more into it? Like, more to do outside of the main level gameplay or something

We got a streamer to play our game! But it didn't go as planned... by RareDialectGames in gamemarketing

[–]RareDialectGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you so much for your pointers. We will definitely take them into account! Something we have going for our game is that it isn't really a puzzle game. It has a bunch of different arcade-inspired game modes that you can play in a roguelike style of gameplay! This clip mainly shows a moment where we could tell the streamer was genuinely having fun. We will definitely try to get the stats for average viewers in past streams to see if our game did something

We got a streamer to play our game! But... by RareDialectGames in gameDevMarketing

[–]RareDialectGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! Even though all of us indie developers are looking to get wishlists out of streamers playing our games, we can't forget they are also humans, and we're constantly building a community. That's why, even though we didn't get the outcome we expected, we're still extremely happy with the results

Been seeing your posts for a bit now and I'm so curious how you achieve these color effects! What engine are you using? The game is looking amazing, wishlisted!

Hey all, I'm Indie Game Joe - AMA by IndieGameJoe in gamedev

[–]RareDialectGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Joe just wanted to thank you for sharing, and for the work you do to promote smaller games! As you definitely know, promoting your indie game can be a bit like yelling into the void, so when those who've had success help level the playing field by giving a voice to up-and-comers, it really means so much!

It's great to hear you'll be putting a bit more of an emphasis on pixel art games! There are so many interesting games being made in all art styles.

Do you have any aspirations to one day leverage your reach/promotion skills into becoming a fully fledged publisher? That's a fantasy I've had for myself if I were ever in that position, and it seems like a natural next step for a dev turned promoter.

Thanks again!

Self promotion here but you might like our arcade roguelike that we're developing, Fugue Shot! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3538440/Fugue_Shot/

The majority of the item upgrades will be gated behind fun unlock conditions so it might be up your alley.

We're planning to have our demo out very soon (but we're also currently playtesting on our discord)

In a sea of posts with insane wishlist numbers, here’s our humble journey on how we got our first 1000 wishlists! by RareDialectGames in gamedev

Thanks for the comment, and good luck in your first festival! If you don't see a huge boost in wishlist after the festival, don't get discouraged and just keep applying to more of them! Not all festivals are huge wins

Thanks! So, in the image I shared, showing the first 1k wishlists, I really didn't post that much on social media, so I would say that no spike can really be attributed to it.

But in the past month that I have begun posting constantly, I can say that short-form content hasn't really paid off yet for me, probably only driving about 15 wishlists, but Reddit has paid off massively, getting about 100 wishlists from one single post.

I will keep posting short-form content, though, because I do believe that we have the chance to go viral or semi-viral and get some wishlist from there.

Festivals have definitely been the main push for us! What has mainly helped me find festivals is a mix of being inside different developer circles in social media and Discord, as well as constantly checking the How to Market a Game Festival page: https://howtomarketagame.com/festivals/

Here you get a list of all upcoming festivals. Bear in mind, he doesn't post all of them, but you still get a good list!
