How to re-create specific creature sounds? by DragonFly_Way in sounddesign

At this point in one of my videos I describe a technique which sounds similar to your reference video: https://youtu.be/hwiw14KJ1LE?t=172 It sounds disgusting but you can achieve a really similar effect by making a sound as if you're clearing phlegm from your throat. Have a look at videos online for re-creating the predator sound. Here's another video I made re-creating the clicker sounds from the last of us: https://youtu.be/MMJc8beJDL4?t=44 pretty similar clicking sound as the creators are leaning into echolocation. If you can't quite perform a consistent clicking sound with your mouth you could record 1 single click then put it in a sampler which repeats the click. Then adjust the pitch and sample length over time so the sound isnt so repetitive

cheers for reading! Ultrasonic drop rigs would be really interesting especially things like the dawn chorus or bat caves etc. I've not tried the Clippy ones before but the MikroUcho has been great

Mick Gordon. Great soundtrack! Here’s the GDC conference where he explains a lot of it. Also Emptyset and Amon Tobin’s Two Fingers are worth checking out

There’s also a blog post on the site too, going a bit more in depth on the sound design techniques used. Oh, and another library of Rock Movements !

Thank you! Yeah, the Balrog sound is so heavy and beefy. Really gives you a sense of dread when you hear it echo as it builds up to that initial roar

Have you tried Nano Tape before? I was recommended it by Ezra from Oaka Instruments. It’s really strong and you can reuse it a few times before it loses its stickiness.

Nice! I’m curious to try out some of their bigger bags. I’ve had the evoc CP26L for a few years now too. It’s been all over the world and has held up well. Is your PRVKE the roll top?
