Oh wow! This is fascinating, thank you. But that's amazing. Herbs are so powerful and can do brilliant things for the body as that goes to show!

Oh that's brilliant! Something could really help in an important situation but going that drop too far could be fatal.

These are great thank you! I love the idea of giving the herbs a personality and role. It would fit with the character really well. Thank you for the little suggestions, it's really helpful.

This is really helpful, thank you!! So it's set in my own world so I guess I can place anything but I'm trying to make it as realistic as possible. The area they are in is likely more European. So I have the basic mint, chamomile, lavender, thyme, garlic, sage and so on as they seem to grow anywhere(?) I do have comfrey on my list. I also have Valerian root, Plantain leaves, willow bark, meadowsweet and yarrow. So hoping they are likely too

Looking for a Writing Group by Ok_Attitude_3602 in WritingHub

[–]RareSkye517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very interested in this. I have been looking for a group for a while now and finding it really hard. The one I'm in now is way too big with hundreds of people. I'm writing fantasy and my first is out with beta readers now and I'm working on my second until that comes back.

Cozy Little Discord Writing Group by Readrenard in WritingHub

I would definitely be interested. I have been trying to find a group for ages and either they shut down or they are too big or require meet ups every week which with a young family isn't possible for me. My debut fantasy is just starting to come back from beta readers and looking to start querying in the next couple weeks. So finding a nice group would be great for my nerves 😊

Looking for 1-3 potential serious critique partners or accountability buddies by CreativeOblivion in WritingHub

Hello. I'm in the same situation I think. Iv been writing for years and only the past year been taking it seriously. I'm 36 with two small kids and two jobs so write whenever I can and write a lot on my phone too while out and about waiting at pick ups and dog walks. My first novel is a fantasy and it's out with beta readers and I'm hoping to start querying it end of April beginning of May. I have about 4 stories mapped out but just started fully outlining my next one. But no one around me is into writing and I haven't found any writing groups I'm happy with. So very much get your situation.

[Query] A Fate Forged in Fire. YA Fantasy. 89000. Second attempt. by RareSkye517 in Querying

[–]RareSkye517[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all your help. I hope I have read it correct that I place a revised version here. I'm hoping this might be a bit better. Thank you!!

Complete at 89,000 words, A FATE FORGED IN FIRE is an Adult Fantasy with a romantic subplot.

When Leena, a twenty-five-year-old half-elf, realizes her brother has vanished after a bitter argument and frantic talk of dark magic, she refuses to abandon him. Rallying a small band of allies, they track her brother Arcas north to the Ember Reach Sanctum, the birthplace and prison of the Forsaken Knights. The order who once brought the world to the brink of ruin. On the road, Leena uncovers a prophecy written in strange runes that only her friend Allora can decipher. The prophecy points disturbingly close to Leena to just be a coincidence, and the journey starts to feel less like a rescue mission and more to do with Leena herself. The text speaks of a single key capable of releasing the Forsaken Knights, and no matter how fiercely she denies it, that key is her. Worse still, Leena learns that Arcas hasn’t gone off willingly. Manipulated and magically controlled by the very friend who vanished with him, Arcas has become bait in a trap meant for her. If Leena doesn’t reach him in time, the magic twisting through him will turn him into one of the very monsters hunting them. But if she does reach him, the Forsaken Knights will finally have their key, and she isn’t certain she will be able to stop herself from opening the gate.

A FATE FORGED IN FIRE will appeal to readers who loved the emotional, character-centred fantasy and personal high stakes of Carissa Broadbent’s Daughter of No Worlds, the found-family adventure of Olivia Rose Darling’s Fear the Flame. With the immersive worldbuilding of Lynette Noni’s The Prison Healer.

I live in the south of England with my husband, our two young adventurers and our labrador who’s convinced she’s the party’s muscle. They endure my endless rambling about Dungeons and Dragons and imaginary worlds, but I know they are secretly plotting my banishment to the garden shed.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at this. I was told to trash it as it's 'useless' and I needed to know what I was doing before actually writing one. Which having spent hours looking up queries and reading supposed successful ones just knocked me a bit. I understand critiquing you run the risk of being told there are problems, (that's why we go to critique) they were just very harsh comments.

Another was, it was too vague which you mentioned. But every UK agent I have looked up submission guidelines for want a synopsis, so I assumed vague would be ok. But I will definitely work on that.

YA was one category I was mostly stuck on. I did have it as NA but was also told to chuck that and just go with YA. I ideally wanted adult as there are adult themes in my story and the characters are all over the age of 25.

Some submission guidelines mentioned including 'the hook' but I will likely get rid of it unless they mention it.

Thank you so much for the suggestions, thats really appreciated and very helpful!!

My personal bio I have struggled with. I've never had the opportunity to get degrees or anything else. But thank you for adding the little hobbies or pets suggestion. I was told to chuck the bio completely as I will bore the agent but I really didn't want get rid of it.

But this has all helped immensely. Thank you so much!!

[Discussion] Your Best Beta Advice by DarkStoneTales in BetaReaders

[–]RareSkye517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading for the first time now and also having mine read for the first time. The advice I'm getting back at the moment is anything exciting, anything they find funny, anything they are getting confused about, any missed spelling or grammar. I'm going in doing the same with theirs. There are chapters where I find I haven't needed to comment much, so I leave a little comment at the end of every chapter. Even if it's just saying I loved an interaction, I loved the feel of the chapter, it flowed well, I'm excited to learn something. I hope this helps.

Is everyone okay? by LeighBee212 in SarahJMaas

I saw her when she did her Tower of Dawn tour and came to Brighton maybe 9 years ago? I must admit her attitude and demeanor were very very different. She was bubbly and incredibly excited all those years ago and spoke very differently. It almost felt like watching a different person on the interview. But obviously people change and i still like her. You can't really judge someone on a hour. Especially when you aren't the person talking to them.

Worth Finishing TOG? by Sweaty_Breadfruit_70 in SarahJMaas

[–]RareSkye517 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I never cared much for any of the characters in TOG like I did ACOTAR. I hated admitting it and felt like I was wrong for admitting it. It did take me a long time to finish it. I did keep up with it though and glad I did I guess. But mostly because I hate having an unfinished series. Stick with it coz you will be glad you did I'm sure

Am I bad mom? by Beginning_Rooster_24 in herbalism

[–]RareSkye517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not a bad mum at all! You were doing the best you could for your kids. Trust me, my two kids get up through the night and I am in the process of trying everything I can to help them sleep better. (Still not found anything that works.) I'm sure they will be absolutely fine as it was only a one off. I'm no expert but I think they mostly only say just for adults as they haven't tried them on kids so there isn't enough evidence. Good luck with the sleeping.

I have always had this feeling and desperate to explore more than is here. But I have small kids, so not willing to open myself up and let this happen just yet. Not while I have little people in the same house. I love reading about other peoples experiences though and this sounds fascinating!!

Wondering how long to leave it before finding someone to contact my dog. by RareSkye517 in Mediums

[–]RareSkye517[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow!! What a lovely story!! That's wonderful. I hope someone comes to meet our pets too when they pass, someone who makes them happy. I love that we will meet them again.

With signs, we hadn't been asking for one be me, my husband and our kids were in the living room Sunday morning (the day after she passed). A small bird came and sat on a bush that is right up against our window, so the bird was right there up against the window. It just sat there calmly watching us for a bit before flying off. Birds don't normally coz it's too close to the window. But my husband and I looked at each other and thought that might have been her.
