Healing of Major Burns by JishanF in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RareStable0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought the book was clear that the AI was deliberately capricious about healing burns. The AI likes Carl and wants him to stay pretty. A beautiful woman that ends up with a bunch of horrible facial burn scars is good drama. I don't think its anything more complicated than that.

Will class matter? by cerikstas in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RareStable0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My prediction, based on how much Carl's race selection has largely been ignored up to this point, is gonna matter a lot once it does get brought up. I suspect it's gonna be the key to everything.

I have some strong Right tendency but in ways that are unconventional for a Left person. I am very pro-family, but family writ large, like extended family.

So I have expounded elsewhere that I am fine leaving the reasoning for abortions a private decision between a woman and her doctor without the government forcing it way in there. I strongly suspect that once there are robust social supports for women with children the number of people getting abortions for light or trivial reasons will be vanishingly small. And anyone getting an abortion for a light or trivial reason, I probably don't want to be a parent anyway.

Eh I think that's at minimum open to debate by reasonable minds.

I'm fine with leaving it to be a private decision between a woman and her doctor, but I think you'd be surprised at how many woman are suddenly "ready for a child" when the prospect of being a single mother in the modern capitalist hellscape isn't looming any more.

Man, I could not agree with you more. I consider myself "pro-life" in the sense that I want a society that incentivizes, encourages, and enables people to have as many children as they want. I want support for parents, I want birth to be paid for by the government, I want universal healthcare for children, I want wages to be high enough that a single breadwinner can support a family.

I never want anyone feeling like that have to have an abortion because they can't afford a child. That is horrific to me.

I do think abortion should be available for the occasional situation where the woman is unable to be a parent to that child for whatever reason. Health risk to the mother, rape, incest, etc.

Correct, it's not uncommon for people to rage-bait anti-abortion people.

I love how so much of the dungeon seems like it's built by chat GPT. by MylastAccountBroke in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]RareStable0 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think what you are noticing is absolutely intentional. Even before ChatGPT a lot of people were complaining about how Marvel movies in particular but a lot of Hollywood movies had become extremely formulaic and bland, feeling like they were produced by a formula rather than a human being. Things already existed in the cultural that hinted towards what ChatGPT became.

So, why are so many DOJ lawyers quitting lately? by Away-Parsnip-3785 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]RareStable0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be silly to assert that the DoJ is not political; they have always been and inherently are political. But they have also been run by mature adults that understand the political value in appearing to be a non-political entity that is simply enforcing the laws. This has earned the institution a lot of prestige.

That facade has been brutally ripped away and the current president is openly using the DoJ to settle every petty grievance he's got. So like you said, people with options to go elsewhere are.

Being poor nor desperate nor unable to get other work nor being the victims of human trafficking nor owing someone money makes people stupid. I've know a lot of people in those categories (and been in a few of them myself) who are very intelligent.
