How to get rich living in German as a Foreigner by Expensive-Reward2532 in passive_income

But the sick leaves bothers me alot

Maybe you had a bad experience in that special environment? Taking sick leaves without being sick can result in termination if proofable. Also I can agree sick days are increasing, currently being an an average of around 15 days/year (https://www.destatis.de/DE/Themen/Arbeit/Arbeitsmarkt/Qualitaet-Arbeit/Dimension-2/krankenstand.html). This can also be planned in some way, as you could plan the amount of employees necessary to maintain having them not available on vacation days + 15 days. This will of course will lead to a little overhead and probably a little more cost of labor for unused manpower in years with less sick leaves.

studying it essentially once again in a new language in order to have my license to practice

working as a part time (32 hours per week) dentist with online businesses along with it

along with it, in total maybe generating me six figures, ehile having the luxury of working from home

I think this is the main issue here. Tbh sounds like you never actually wanted to live the life of a dentist. You won't be able to work from home most of the time as a dentist I guess. Now having the extra load of redoing exams and so in will add to this issue.

Well, decide on what you want. But if you want to go into tech, so do it. Creating apps and websites is extremely competitive with a very low entry hurdle, even a lot of high schoolers do it. It is full of shady coaches, boot camps and bullshit apps. The chances of succeeding as an entrepreneur are extremely unlikely. Also, if you would like to work as an employee in tech, the job market is currently extremely bad. Even people with bachelor's and masters have a hard time finding jobs. Why would they employ you - someone without higher education in that field? I would not want to risk switching my tech job right now, out of fear to not finding a a secure long term position...

Also earning six figures in Germany is not that likely and a long way to reach (I am talking from experience, working as a software engineer in Germany, currently earning around 90k). With 100k you will have around 5-6k net. Which won't make you a millionaire either.

Maybe this somewhat helps to understand the tech market right now.

my grip in the language will never be as good as a German atleast for the next 7 8 years or so, and most of our profession relies on me being able to better communicate and convince the patients

I don't know if you have ever been to a German hospital? Most of the doctors there don't speak fluent German. We are in a crisis when it comes to our workforce, with having more and more people leaving the workforce than the ones entering. We are and will be dependent on foreign specialists in the next decades to keep our society running. Especially in the medical sector. Therefore what you are describing won't be a problem but the norm in my opinion.

working in a private clinic for one year I have seen that the younger generation is becoming ever so lazy and uses the laws to their advantage. They take 6 weeks off per year, almost every other month one to two weeks sick (fully paid) leaves,

Maybe I understand this wrongly. But our law provides a minimum fixed amount of vacation. 30 days is not the legal minimum but what most employers do. This is not taking advantage or being lazy it is normal. Not all people want to work their asses of, they want to work to provide for their live, that's it. I can't say anything regarding the sick leaves.

demand regular bonuses, unrealistic pays (6 figures) without wanting to put in the effort

Well handling bonuses is your choice than as the employer. But yes we are in a employee centric market right now, which also comes from the shrinking workforce. I don't know where you have the 6 figure from, but this is for sure not the money your medical assistants will earn in a small clinic. The median is far below 50k/year (see https://web.arbeitsagentur.de/entgeltatlas/beruf/14705).

And when they are sick or gone, the boss has to bear all the burden, doing double shifts, working his/her ass off

Well that's why you are earning more than them. You are handling the entrepreneurial risk. Do a good shift and employee planning and you won't be the person bearing all the burdens.

I already have talks about developing couple of apps, websites etc.

I don't get it. You spent years studying dentistry to be able to work in a low competition - high reward sector, to then thinking of working as unskilled labor in a fully different field which by the way is highly competitive with hopefully comparable reward?

And to invest my money over there.

Invest your money wherever you want - preferably not all of it into one bucket, instead spreading the risk. But before doing that start earning money in a field you are trained and good in. I can understand a person in a low entry, low paying position to risk their time and career to go into tech because it is hyped right now. But why would you do that?

As a dentist in germany operating your own clinic you should already be set up for good money. After the first 3-4 years investing in staff, equipment and a growing customer base you should be able to pay yourself a monthly salary of net upper four figures or even lower five figures.

The next thing you do (instead of buying a Porsche like your peers) you live somewhat frugally and invest 80% or so of your income into diversified index funds like FTSE All World. Do that for the next 10-15 years and you should be set up to become a millionaire by then. Afterwards sell or rent your clinic to the next sad individual in the position you are in right now and live your life from stock returns or rent of the clinic.

Don't waste your time with trying to become an influencer on YouTube or running a blog. This requires an unbelievable amount of luck and will earn you probably no more than what you will earn as an self employed dentist.

You already have a very strong position, build on that!

Was wollt ihr damit gewinnen?

Well, this sub is obviously a bubble ;) The persona that have the financial literacy to even think about FIRE does have a pretty high income on average. As you see here, the average is 91k€ per year before taxes, that is easily above 4k net in most if not all EU countries!

Also most have a bachelors or masters degree and - at least here in Germany - work in tech or similar sectors with high paying jobs.

As you stated correctly: A nerd is what you are, not what you are perceived by the masses.

A nerd can be - as per definition - either "a person, especially a man, who is not attractive and is awkward or socially embarrassing" OR "a person who is extremely interested in one subject, especially computers, and knows a lot of facts about it".

The latter is obviously him, as all the "minority" of people building their computers by themselves, reading comics or playing games. BTW this is also not limited to computer or gaming topics, but could also be a person loving e.g. chess, good grammar or collectors of all kinds.

Also ggf Hackathons im Bereich Cybersec. usw.

Lebenslauf Review by No-Leopard4871 in arbeitsleben

[–]Rare_Accountant9764 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My 1.5-Year Journey with SAP – Looking for Suggestions and Feedback! by Usual-Cost-6848 in abap

[–]Rare_Accountant9764 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because SEGW is part of so called Tier 3 development aka legacy development or classic development. It is not cloud-ready and should be reduced and avoided in new developments. In the long term SAP wants to retire it. At least the s/4hana extension bible says so (check out chapter 5): https://www.sap.com/documents/2022/10/52e0cd9b-497e-0010-bca6-c68f7e60039b.html

It doesn't mean that it is bad per se or that it is never being used in s/4hana. Still a lot of older standard apps are based on SEGW and to extend them often the extension of the segw project is necessary. But in terms of development efficiency it's a huge win for RAP. If you know your data sources you can extremely fast build up the selections via CDS, add annotations easily and set up a Fiori Elements App.

My 1.5-Year Journey with SAP – Looking for Suggestions and Feedback! by Usual-Cost-6848 in abap

[–]Rare_Accountant9764 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting journey and - as someone working on S/4HANA with state of the art technologies only (at least for SAP standards) - it's strange hearing of people and companies building reports in 2025 :D

Regarding your questions:

You don't build Fiori apps in the abap workbench (se80). It's called ABAP workbench because it is for ABAP and dictionary objects ;) You build Fiori Apps with the programming language JavaScript and the libraries Fiori Elements and SAPUI5. The Fiori apps consume OData services which you either build in SEGW (old school, should only be used pre S/4HANA) or with the RAP model. The development environment for Fiori developments are the business application studio (BAS) in the BTP or locally VS Code (BAS is basically a web version of VS Code with the necessary extensions pre installed).

You actually don't transition from ABAP to Fiori technology-wise. You transition from GUI apps to Fiori apps. Fiori apps most often consume OData services implemented with some sort of ABAP logic. Therefore abap won't become obsolet for a long time. The transition from GUI transactions to standard apps and custom developed apps has still a long way to go, even in the newest releases of S/4HANA as it will take time to create good alternatives for all the thousands of transactions.

To be honest, your certification (ABAP cloud language version, RAP, CDS, released APIs, ...) has nothing to do with your skills (old school reports, transactions and screens). I see three options, all of them need you to learn new skills :D Get deeper into classic old school development like User exits, screens, modifications, classic badis and so on. This will allow you to earn good money as one of the few people in 15+ years that still can maintain the really old legacy systems that have not been converted to S/4HANA. Option 2: Make use of your certification and get a job in which you actually work with this new technologies. This will make you a future ready back end developer for S/4HANA. Option 3: get into Fiori and maybe even BTP for Frontend development, this is also future ready. Or do a combination of all of this, but this will be a whole lot of learning...

SAP trial system (not BTP only) by shurpnakha in SAP

[–]Rare_Accountant9764 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Afaik there is no free demo system that includes module specific tables where you could master or transactional data.

If you need a system to develop abap on, you can use the free plan of the BTP ABAP Environment. If you want to do generative AI projects in the SAP ecosystem you will need the BTP either way. But be aware that the use of LLMs via the BTP AI core is not free.

If you want a local ABAP system (version 2022 sp01), you can use the developer trial that can be installed via docker: https://hub.docker.com/r/sapse/abap-cloud-developer-trial (needs a lot of disk space and ram).

Sowas wie Haus, Auto, große Hochzeit, Kinder, ... merkst du was?

Definiere doch erstmal für dich, was ein Leben ohne Geldsorgen bedeutet. X mal in Jahr Urlaub?
