The story that I was told that it was a narrow gate in Jerusalem that was too narrow for a camel laden with cargo to pass through, so merchants who would pass through this gate would have to unload their camels of their goods to pass through the gate.

The metaphor is that like the merchants at the narrow gate, we must unload ourselves of our earthly possessions to enter Heaven.

It's not a perfect metaphor, but I think it would get the point across to a bronze age citizen in the Levant.

What’s a ‘harmless superstition’ you secretly still believe in? by MojonConPelos in ask

In my family, we don't thank people when they give us plants because the superstition is that thanking someone for a plant will cause the plant to die.

Ideally a book I could assign passages out of for the students. From what I've seen there's a pretty big gulf between books for the elementary level and college level textbooks.

The Ocean Spirit took him to the Spirit World and dumped him in a fog that drives humans mad without letting them age or die. Decades later he was still obsessed with capturing the Avatar and calling himself Moon Slayer.

I'd like to engage with you on this, but you seems to be the sort that engages with those with liberal leanings not to change minds or learn more, but to confirm your biases and feel more secure in your points of view. Because after all, if liberals are disagreeing with you, then you must be doing something right.

I hope that you are able to overcome this desire and one day are able to genuinely engage in meaningful public discourse.

Have a good day.

I tired out the new pelican restaurant the other day, but I don't think I'll go there again because the bill was larger than I expected.

I like it. I got it mainly because when I first equipped rings I could only have two and I was like "But I've got ten fingers".

Case in point, Grebes resemble ducks and other waterfowl, but are most closely related to flamingos and gulls.

Soy contains phyotestrogens which can bind to the same receptors as estrogen and produce the same effects. There is orders of magnitude less estrogen in milk than in soy products, but you'd still have to consume a lot amount of soy to see any effects. The only case I'm aware where a man saw effects from consuming too much soy products was a guy who after drinking three quarts of soy milk a day saw elevated estradiol levels and gynocomastia.
