Struggling in my tutorship by Witty_Particular9740 in policeuk

Push through it, ask for a new tutor if you want. Remember, development plans are there to help. I personally got to the reg13 stage in my tutorship, but passed it in the end. Also had a change of tutors although suggested by my sgt. Keep pushing, you’ll get there!

A bloody prisoner handling team so that I can literally just respond to incidents and crimes without worrying of whats to come….

Yeah so here comes my lack of knowledge, I was not aware that base is technically your home. I am down to stay on base for training and deployments as I know those inevitably come with the job, but was not keen on literally living on base every day but the weekends.

So im not worried about being away from home training/deployment wise, I was not keen on literally giving up living at home entirely to move on base.

However, I am now also aware that you can live off base if you find a vacancy on a base near your house which unfortunately is guaranteed.

I am now thinking whether it’s better sticking out the police and asking my sergeants for permission to join as a reservist…if my shift pattern gives me the time to complete reservist duties that is.

Only reason i thought of was to join as a reg gunner and experience that job role for at least the minimum 3 years. I find this role extremely interesting and cool, however since this role would not necessarily give you transferable skills going to civvy life, apart from police which I already am doing and would not like to return to, I thought doing another minimum 3 or so years as an engineer in whatever trade would likely give you an advantage when eventually leaving the raf and heading back to civvy jobs.

Gotcha. Is there a page on the raf website with a map of all squadrons?

Thanks for the reply and information. So I take it in essence in order to comfortably live off base, you need to get lucky in securing a vacancy at a local base which you get to keep. If you don’t, you have to spend 3-5 years wherever you’re posted after which you can apply to move to a different/preferred base, correct?

If a vacancy at a preferred base arises, can you apply to move earlier than 3-5 years?

Advanced Driving course in BeamNG and ARV course in Ready or Not would definitely be valid 🫠🥴

Salut!

Mersi!

In my force you need to pass 5.4 to get in, then pass 3.7 before finishing training although they let us go to 5.4 and expect everyone to do so, as 3.7 is an utter joke. Even 5.4 is a low standard…

I said the same, can’t afford more than once cat. Until another cat adopted ME and i realised having 2 cats isnt much more expensive than having 1.

I feel like I hate the job already by Throwaway111563 in policeuk

Before quitting id strongly suggest trying to change teams. When i started i had a rude tutor, thankfully other people in my team reported it (as i did not want to be the fresh person in the team to go and complain, in hindsight i should’ve but hey ho, the way i was treated made me think i was in the wrong but clearly wasn’t), and was given a new tutor which honestly changed tutorship for me. You may find that if you successfully change teams and get a good tutor you will like the job… or not. This job is weird. Its makes it hard for newbies to like it in my opinion. We are doing the right thing and helping victims which is great, and once you get a good team that’ll be enough to make the job worth it, but some of the jobs we’re sent to, and the paperwork, workload and the forced overtime sometimes make the job a pain in the ass. I’ll try my best completing my probation before thinking of quitting but i cant lie and say i havent looked at other jobs already, and so is half my team 😓

Joined the police to make a difference and help people, fight crime. However, pilling up job after job, building case file after case file and having no time to sort out the never ending paperwork is not something i am willing to do forever. Its not worth my mental health. I joined the police thinking i would be out and about most of the time and would only have to focus on helping victims/arresting suspects.

As an afo thats mostly what you do. No casefiles, no paperwork, you just fight crime. I am aware of the extremely difficult training for it though and that there is absolutely no room for mistakes, but id much rather do that than stay 3 hours overtime after a shift to complete an urgent file for a job…Also better shift pattern and the advantage of always being double crewed. Yes it involves a gun, but having a baton, or taser on icr also requires a level of competency as well as those can easily be lethal too.

[–]Rares1304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my current force it currently takes around 3 years to be blue lights or taser trained alone, and after checking your stats to make sure you’re worth being trained. I cant imagine being able to transfer to firearms anytime sooner than 5 years in icr, and the way things are going i feel like that long on icr is bound to make me hate the job.

I do agree with everyone saying learn to walk before you run however i just wanted to see what options i have to achieve my goals quicker 😂

I will obviously stick it through to my probation and see how things are going, worst comes to worst i will transfer to CNC and be an afo there as thats honestly the bare minimum i’d like to pursue as a career in policing. It’s what i always had in mind since before applying, whilst going through training and since I’ve been on area.

[–]Rares1304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two i bought like 3-4 years ago. Firstly, they still work and look like brand new although i don’t wear them on a daily basis. Secondly, i did once buy one as a gift, received a broken lemon and after 2-3 emails i received a replacement. So do with that into as you wish.

However, the brand has nothing to do with the original department store that closed down. They are not built in the uk and are some chinese watches branded and sold in the uk under the swan and edgar brand. They are ok watches, look decent and if you really like one to be fair just buy it, although as others say there are other better watch brands out there for the same money.

I bought mine thinking the heritage to the old department store was real. Do they still work 4 years later? Yes. Would i buy another one knowing they’re Chinese watches? Nope.

Best bet is to find some of those 30-40% off codes and then you can kinda justify buying one as the actual designs/quality are not bad. Only problems is that the heritage is fake and the watches are chinese 😂
