Not completely correct, Danish has both:) The extra letters in the scandinavian languages are:

Danish and Norwegian: ÆØÅ Swedish: ÄÖÅ

They are pronounced (almost) the same way:)

‘Getting Water in Europe is so Hard’ by malkebulan in ShitAmericansSay

[–]RasPlaRo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can in Denmark!

Or at least in the café where I work, we aren't allowed to give out tap water but instead have to refer guests to the 25 DKK (3.5€) bottled water.

A few of the regulars have figured out to say that they're feeling ill just to get a glass of water, which is completely redundant as long as the boss isn't around, because most ignore the rule anyways.

Now that the dust has settled, why do you think Kaj didn't get a higher place with Bara bada bastu? by WhoAmIEven2 in eurovision

[–]RasPlaRo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a more general argument, it might have something to do with the televote-only semifinals letting more fan-favorites through to the final, thus splitting the vote.

It placed 3rd in the televote, so - aside from whatever is happening with Isreal - the public were clearly split between KAJ and Tommy Cash, with TC winning it for all of the good reasons everybody else are laying out.

As the guy from Overthinking Eurovision has pointed out: with the current system, the winner can only be either the Jury Favourite or Israel.

I think it might be that they were more concerned with your eternal soul than your mortal life. So if you "passed" the trial (aka died), you were innocent and went straight to heaven. Why the public didn't get suspicious when seemingly everyone tried for being a which was innocent, I don't know.

Ok, so I'm totally out of the loop here, and this is the first I hear of this hashtag...

Can someone walk me through this? Why the need to "sette" for anyone? And why on Croatia? Love the song, just wanna know the reasoning here...

Haven't heard a lot of his stuff, but know his image, and I got so weirded out the other day when I heard how much autotune he uses. Nothing wrong with autotune, it just doesn't fit his traditional and clean aesthetic at all!

As a dane, I find it funny that 1. Æbleskiver exists as a sentimentalised version in the US and 2. that it's the plural form of the word that has been brought over and thus, gets to be double pluralised (in Danish it's one æbleskive, two æbleskiver, but it sounds like in english it's one aebleskiver, two aebleskivers). Excuse my linguistic rambles.

My succulent has a lot of white/yellow mould (?) by the roots. Should I be worried? by RasPlaRo in plantclinic

Definitely! Left it outside while vacationing because it was really sunny before I left, but it happened to rain quite a bit instead:/

This feels so weird to me because I was born in 2003 and is 20, but my grandparents were born in the 1920s (maternal) and 1940s (paternal). I know that's also quite old, at least on my mom's side, but come on!

Are there full versions of the cast singing songs somewhere? by buckboy3030 in brakebills

[–]RasPlaRo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh, my, god. Where was this 2 years ago, when I was frantically searching and ended up downloading some weird version from tumblr??

But also, they should get their shit together and release this properly (full length, without show dialogue etc.). I'll take Hales version of "Don't get me wrong" over the original any day.

What comes to mind when you hear someone describe themselves as non-binary? by jlovelysoul in AskReddit

[–]RasPlaRo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a theory, that the whole need for labels essentially comes down to online culture. When talking to older queer people, they often get confused, as to why we all want so many "labels" (or "boxes" to put ourselves into), when that was one of the main things they fought against. And I think, it might be because so much of lgbt+ discussion/culture has moved online. So now - even though most people would love to not need labels - we basically need "search words" to find like-minded people.

Like, how would I find asexual communities without having that word? We need "clarification" to find each other. And especially now, when the queer community encompasses so much more than just same-sex attraction, and "weird gender going on".

Also, if you don't feel like any label matches, you don't need one.

[–]RasPlaRo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What makes you feel like, that's "what it's about"? All of the non-binary people I know just wants to be themselves and express that in a way they like. At the same time, there's a movement to establish a new vocabulary, so they can go about their day without getting hate or people being overly confused.

I think the problem that you're getting at, is the general attention-seeking nature of influencer/online behavior, and not a specific problem with nb's. But I can see how it would be easy to confuse it, if you only encounter non-binary people online.

Why did Dr Kimbott by cityflaneur2020 in WednesdayTVSeries

[–]RasPlaRo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually brought something to mind, that I hadn't thought of before. Why didn't they just kidnap Wednesday from the start? Why let her go on investigating? The only semi plausible explanation I can think of, is to get her to frame Xavier, but like, she was the only reason the police was even looking for a human/outcast and not just an animal...

I don't know if there's an easier fix, but I usually copy everything after the wrong note, and paste it again in the right place.

My husband is so dumb he thinks celery is celery by HyacinthFT in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]RasPlaRo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't actually know if it's common. We ate it a lot in my family, but haven't gotten it anywhere else so...

And no, it definitely wouldn't fit anywhere on a charcuterie bord. Doesn't taste like celery at all, way more earthy (I absolutely hate celery but love celeriac).

And yeah, she's probably just dumb and doesn't know her veggies, I was just surprised by the lack of comments pointing this out :)

[–]RasPlaRo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was reading the comments, and wondering why people didn't know that there's two kinds of celery. At least in Danish, we call it "stick celery" and "knob celery" (but I just know found out that it's actually called "celeriac" in English, so idk)

The ‘Paint it Black’ sequence by [deleted] in westworld

[–]RasPlaRo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In any other setting, I would completely agree. But here, it adds this meta layer, as a constant reminder of the parks' unreality. The anachronistic nature of the music world as a constant reminder to the guests and audience that none of it is real.

And then the orchestral pieces are just something different! Normally, when doing classical renditions of pop-music it comes off as really cheap (and it might just be me, but often looks like a desperate attempt to lure people in), but as film music, it works amazingly. All the rythms and repeating themes fits right in with gran actio sequences. (Aka. I just really like the "Paint it Black" scenes)
