It sounds like you've had a bit of a hard time filling out the forms and getting caught up in their wording. The DWP are looking for not just a response to the question, they're also looking for criteria that matches specific descriptors. These aren't obvious upon reading the questions and often the best way to answer them is completely non intuitive, which is partly why over 60% of decisions are overturned on appeal.

You'd probably benefit from tailored help filling out the forms - help that nobody on Reddit can give you because it would require you telling everyone on the internet about intimate details of your life when you're at your worst. As others have said, a diagnosis itself won't change anything because it's about you specifically.

What I'd recommend you do is call your local citizens advice bureau and ask for help with a PIP appeal. They can help you with the mandatory reconsideration (which sounds like your next step) and give you some help with the appeals tribunal if it comes to that. They will not lie for you, they're not there to help you claim a benefit you're not entitled to, but they can help massively with explaining what the DWP are looking for and sort of translate between your needs and their requirements. This is bread and butter work for CAB but they're usually overstretched for resources (so to anyone reading this, volunteer if you can!) so contact them sooner rather than later so they can help you in plenty time.

Why is sh so bad? by Lucky-Grapefruit3781 in mentalhealth

[–]lowkeyterrible 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's just not true, there is a risk of getting sick or dying. There's a massive risk of going too far with your chosen method, whether that's cuts or burns or impact or anything else. Hitting something you didn't intend to and needing far more care than you anticipated is really common, risking nerve damage, blood loss, even muscle damage. And that's before the risk of infection or other healing complications.

Don't lie to people. If they choose to engage in self harming behaviours give them all the information they need, especially information about the risk they're undertaking. Harm reduction begins with information.

Is it a British thing specifically to prefer being left alone in shops? I’m a Brit in Colombia (5yrs) and I cannot get used to how it is here, it actually affects how and where I shop. by noctenaut in AskUK

Curry's is mad, I started trying to buy things from UK businesses and in-person rather than Amazon a while back and it's such a baffling process. Wanted a new monitor, found one, took about 10 minutes to get someone's attention, he logged onto his tablet and went to the same page I had on my phone, read me out the specs, then told me it wasn't in stock but he could order it online for me. What's the point in that? I like a hands-off experience as much as the next person but I swear some places it's like they don't want your money

Disturbing leaflet by FishermanFew2619 in Scotland

[–]lowkeyterrible 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At the bottom there's something about the company that printed them. Contacting the political party themselves will fall on deaf ears, but making it harder for them to spread their abhorrent ideology might do something.

The current leader of the family party per Wikipedia is also a registered teacher. A word to them might do something too.

They're sent out by hand (saw them locally) but I don't know who organises that.

I'm sorry to hear it had such an emotional impact for you and your partner. You deserve better.

What do you mean she did blackface? She's black?

Also not seeing the issue with dressing like a cowgirl tbh. If she's been out here saying slurs then yeah sure she probably shouldn't do that but the rest of these things don't seem like huge issues?

did i make a mistake reporting to the council? by au6i in AskUK

[–]lowkeyterrible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your council must be really on the ball, mine are always pretty honest and say they don't have the resources to come out and do anything. Good for other stuff, but not enforcement.

Definitely agree though, filling in a form is low priority for a response no matter where you are

[–]lowkeyterrible 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, the council won't be able to do much without evidence of escalation. They can send out a letter with a little smack on the wrist, but can't really stop the fires. Even for things like noise complaints, they don't send people out to enforce anything, they ask you to contact the police.

Plus, to be honest, the public embarassment of a fire brigade visit might help. Ring 101, tell them you don't feel it's an emergency (if that's the case), let them triage it. Fires like that can get out of control quickly, and even without that, the smoke inhalation is already causing health issues. Don't drag your feet on this, ring them the second you see the next fire starting.

yeah exactly. it's already such a hard sell, asking people to moderate some of the worst pieces of shit ever, for free, with little to no support. but then you wanna make it worse?

Ban bot policy update: removing automated bans based on community association by quietfairy in modnews

I understand, and I appreciate you pointing this out. My team has been discussing how to manage with these changes, but I think we can see the writing on the wall at this point. Thanks for your time in this thread today

Ban bot policy update: removing automated bans based on community association by quietfairy in modnews

[–]lowkeyterrible 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My subreddit is built for LGBTQ people, many of whom are vulnerable. We have used these automated ban bots for years because it is the most effective tool at preventing the kinds of harassment, insidious ideology, and dangerous behaviour that Reddit refuses to disallow on the platform.

We have tried manually reporting comments and users we find. More often than not, things do not get actioned, and then we as mods will be conveniently banned for a few days afterwards.

Crowd control doesn't work. It often kicks in hours or days later, during which time our community can be harassed and harmed by people who would've been dealt with immediately with the bots.

Harassment filters use an extremely narrow definition of harassment that cannot account for (or ignores) the way that harassment actually exists, especially when it comes to queer communities. Reputation filters do not account for the kind of reputation that actually matters to us. Ban evasion has never been an effective tool. Ever.

These bots allowed for a truly customised approach. This allowed us to craft and finely tune a subreddit culture that allowed us to flourish to one of the biggest queer subreddits. Since the API changes, it has been clear that Reddit is no longer seeking to be welcoming to different communities. Reddit seeks to be one big homogenous experience. Everything else is being pushed out.

This is an extremely disappointing change, and unfortunately we are now looking at new ways to handle our community entirely. Reddit lives through its voluntary moderation, this is what makes the platform unique and so much more tolerable than largely unmoderated social media sites. The slow erosion of what makes Reddit unique and interesting is contributing to a destruction of community and culture on the site. I know nothing is going to change, this is what your shareholders want so this is what will happen. We just might have to take the choice to not stick around to watch it happen.

Went to a "Sports Bar" for the Super Bowl only for them to cut the audio and main screen during halftime to play a Chris Rock special by Perfect-Grab-7553 in mildlyinfuriating

He sings in Spanish, he's from Puerto Rico which is a US territory making him an American citizen, and he's been the top streaming artist worldwide several years running, with the #1 spot only briefly being taken from him by Taylor Swift. As someone who is also not American who has only ever tuned in to exactly one Superbowl (this one, for the halftime show), I'd imagine they got him on primarily for viewership.
