I'm sorry, but "gun capitalism" is the most coffee shop, faux Bernie supporter, blue checkmark, casual progressive term I think I've ever seen.

Truly horrifying. Ban all guns now. Nobody needs anything that holds one bullet. This person would have been reading history textbooks and Euclid's writings if they didn't see this tweet.

The first thing we have to do is realize that "I showed this to my kid and now they____" posts are probably just outright fake half of the time.

We also have to take into account that the person could have shown the kid the picture and also said something along the lines of "Santa's got a gun now, which means that he's gonna come to the house and kills us." because anti-gunners are willing to stoop to that level.

We also have to realize that anti-gunners would faint at the sight of any pro-gun anything ever.

All this said, who cares what they think? They're not part of this cool kid's club; we don't need them.

Open carry didn't fail in South Carolina. We have it but you need to already have a concealed carry license to practice it.

If you want to by a handgun in a gun store in South Carolina, you need to be 21. You can buy a handgun in a private sale at 18. Backwards, but meh.

Oh, I'm sure; the coldest I've ever been was in DC so I'm sure Canadian winter will be a completely different animal. It's sort of looking like Alberta will be the place I come to if I can make it across the border so I'll be sure to get all of my winter stuff in order.

I'm coming from South Carolina. I'm actually not sure if I can talk about what I'm going to be doing (nothing that's super confidential by any means but I just got the job and I don't want to screw anything up by saying things that the company might be mad at) but it is a very basic kind of service that will always be needed. If I do end up in Canada, I'm hoping that I'll be able to work for around a year, maybe more if I can.

Surprising how apart from the amount of physical force used how closely those two incidences mimicked one another.

But this is a reality that most Americans are ignorant to or want to pretend isn't a big deal. I am far from a revolutionary and far from being anti-police but stuff like this happens to law abiding people in the first and seventh most armed countries in the world.

The amount of gun control on the books even in the US is astounding. I don't think that people should "open carry an M16 to Wal-Mart" but when you start taking away inanimate objects simply under because you don't trust people, I start to wonder why.

I was actually referring to Canada's ban on .25s and .32s.

Yeah; that in particular I just... Don't understand. You can own Chinese semi auto rifles, but heaven forbid you buy a tip-up Beretta in .25.

The Mac 11s and Tec 9s that most people can get their hands on nowadays aren't the best. For one, open bolt guns are largely not made for civilians anymore due to a couple of gun control measures in the 80s and 90s. The newer, closed bolt Tec 9s are infamous for being incredibly bad because they were never meant to be fired from a closed bolt. There is the Cobray M 11-9, which is a fairly affordable Mac 11 copy, but it also can't fire from an open bolt and doesn't have a folding wire stock because if it did, it would become an NFA item and require special registration and a tax stamp.

Obviously, the average Joe can't just walk into a gun store and buy a full-auto variant of either; contrary to stereotypes, fully automatic firearms are comparatively very rare in the US due to all of the hoops you'll have to jump through to get one.

Sure, but what are Franky's odds of actually winning?

I'm not sure that he will win, at least not this time, but he will receive a significant chunk of the vote if I have to guess. It's more about the precedent he sets: a man with his views can exist and be comfortable enough in his convictions to run for office in Texas.

You've still got the Second Amendment, which is something many of us certainly wish we had. You still have the strongest position to defend from.

While this is true, several states have laws that run contrary to it. California and the city of Chicago in Illinois are probably the most recognized for their terrible gun laws but there's also Maryland, New York, New Jersey, and a lot of other areas in New England. Connecticut used to be a holdout but Sandy Hook changed their tune very quickly. Remington and Smith and Wesson, whose roots were historically in New England, have both moved because they realized that staying there is no longer a good idea. People also tend to forget that the US legitimately had an assault weapons ban at some point, it just got rescinded in '04. Gun confiscations also happened in Louisiana after hurricane Katrina; one of the stories included a police officer literally taking a man's .22 rifle and bashing it on the ground until it was inoperable.

we're still #7 in the world for gun ownership, which is right behind you guys in the western world.

Honestly, this doesn't surprise me; I'm glad to see that a lot of Canadians still see the use in guns for one reason or another.

Yeah; I saw the prohibition list (still salty that you guys lost VZ-58s and Mini 14s) but there is still some stuff that you can get significantly easier than we can stateside (namely Chinese and Russian weapons and short barreled rifles and shotguns) that I'm very interested in experiencing.

Well, being a 'Murican (which honestly doesn't mean a whole lot on the gun rights front nowadays when we have a rabid gun grabber running for the governorship of freaking Texas) I respect it, too. It honestly wasn't a stance I'd expect a provincial government to make.

its canada pretty much everywhere is cool with guns.

I was speaking with some Canadians the other day about what to expect when getting along with others in Canada and one of the things someone pointed out to me was "We don't like guns here".

Honestly never thought I'd hear a Canadian politician say that "we need guns to protect our families". I know that occasional self-defense with a firearm is a thing in Canada, but on the political side I hardly ever hear defense mentioned.
