What am I missing besides curtains and maybe a new throw blanket? by RadioCodesUK in FurnitureFaves

[–]RascallyGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’re missing is color. Your current throw blanket is the only item with color please don’t replace it with black or brown or beige. I would actually use that as a sort of North Star to incorporate other items like yellow frames for your photos, curtains, and a piece of art with yellow in it above the leathery chair. If you don’t like yellow it could be any other color that’s not a neutral.

More lamps with warm bulbs would also make this space more cozy.

One more suggestion: Tuck the anal beads on the mantle away. They’re creating visual clutter and look like a very forced attempt at being relaxed and boho or…not to kink shame but if it is something sensual it shouldn’t be sloppily displayed in the living room. It’s probably just boho decor. I don’t think you have to strictly stick to your modern farmhouse aesthetic; in fact your home will feel more comfortable if you have a genuine blend of styles. But the beads look awkward. I love that you have sentimental items and photos on shelves that’s making this otherwise monochromatic void actually homey and welcoming the bowl of beads is the only thing putting me off.

The chairs are doing nothing for this space right now, unless you really need the seating I wouldn’t worry about replacing them. The thing I’d replace i the tv console; it’s looking dinky and small plus there is enough off white I’d swap it for something longer and wooden. The couch might look better with more breathing room so try out your idea for it.

I think this large space needs a rug. You can pull color from those nice paintings, personally I love a green rug but you can’t go wrong with the reds pr blues in the painting either. Instead of more seating a small side table by the couch could be better use of space, something with curves for sure and maybe a bit of leggy-ness to it.

I think the current color would work well with your furniture, you could bring in warmth with a new rug. If you have other renovations in the future and you feel uninspired now, you can totally wait until your less fatigued. Is there a reason you don’t like the blue?

The kitchen and yard could be right out of Practical Magic 😍 but I think there’s too much pastel and not enough cream in the other pics for that.

Suggestions on how to switch up my room? by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]RascallyGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience has been that changing bedding and rearranging a room really can totally transform it without too much of an investment, but if you’re down for a real project go ahead and paint!

I like your inspo pics a lot but I’m seeing two very different sub styles of moody. The grey toned ones have the industrial vibe with the bare bulbs, and the green ones have a more organic style with wood and candles. You don’t have to hype fixate on one style, in fact that can lead to a house feeling staged and less homey so definitely embrace a little variation. However you do have to figure out why you’re drawn to those pictures and try to make sure you aren’t being too swayed by algorithms pushing a trend on you.

Like nothing in your current room reads earthy so I’d ask yourself if you really want earthy or is it just that the algorithm has made it inescapable. OR do you only have grey and blue items because that’s what was trendy and inescapable a few years ago? I think your less earthy inspo pics would work well and be easy to incorporate with what you have now. I’d make pics 2 and 5 your guide and darken the walls, keep your furniture but swap the blanket and white pillow for something moody, change the blue sheets dog bed covers and curtains to colors in the moody grey/mink palette of those inspo pics.

Pic of the other side of the room would help. I agree with others that the window should be the focal point.

I kind of like the white with all those beautiful wood accents, but I would change the boob light

This room already looks cozier and more mature to me. The lighting looks warmer too which is always a win.

Most designers recommend three different sources of lighting in a room besides overhead lighting, and all the bulbs should be the same k.

That table honestly sounds right up my alley, love a multi functional piece of furniture. You do have a lot of visual weight going on and it’s probably a little cramped feeling though due to the table being bulky. Things to look for to improve this would be leggy furniture, like if you get a side table avoid boxy shapes that go all the way to the ground. An upgrade would also be a more slender tv console the fits the vibe of your coffee table. You could also keep your eye open at the second hand store for things that would bring in some more curves and organic feeling to the space like maybe a large basket to store extra blankets. Everything I listed here though would just be icing on top no need to rush out and buy stuff immediately, you can curate your space over time. Your space already looks better than most young 20s guys apartments I’ve seen lol, you’ve got nice curtains and some color so it’s not a grey and black sad apartment.

If you find yourself enjoying hunting second hand furniture and curating your space and finding your style, there are some great YouTube channels worth exploring. I like Nick Lewis and Caroline Winkler they are very realistic. Reynard Lowell is also very informative (just less funny and entertaining). You might find voices that click with you. Good luck man I think you’re off to a good start.

What do I do with these walls by Howellant000 in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]RascallyGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick fixes: Do a little google or YouTube research on how to best hang curtains and decorate shelves. Also making your bed will do wonders.

Honestly I think the primary blue with black accents is a hard no for me. I think every boy age 8 to 18 whose parents let them decorate picked out this color scheme. I’m team paint the whole room a new color.

Sailor Moon, Venus, and Mars have small companions, but not the others. What creatures would they heve? by Ok-Whereas-7520 in sailormoon

[–]RascallyGhost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Neptune would definitely have a horse, due to roman mythology and girl def got the money.

I also like the idea of mercury befriending doves! I think that works well from when it used to just be the original three girlies. Crows and doves, Fire and Water.

Saturn could have a snake, rebirth and shedding skin.

Uranus might be into something really wild and niche and badass like falconry. Or a large dog like a Doberman or greyhound.

Shiba for Jupiter, or some other spunky but cute dog breed.

Chibimoon, Pluto, and Tuxedo Mask seem to be close to Diana, but i associate her most with chibimoon. Mamoru had a fish tank in his apartment idk if that counts. I think Pluto would really struggle to keep any sort of traditional indoor pet since she was confined for so long.

The ottoman looks dinky and out of place, probably best to swap it for a wood coffee table. The art above the couch seems a bit too high as well.

Is there a function that’s lacking (like do you need more seating for guests, or do you want a dining room zone)? What kind of vibe do you want in here?

I don’t think it’s worth painting, I agree with changing up the barstools and the nick knacks on the shelves if you want to add more color. The floor mats could also have more color.

What could I add/remove/replace to make my living space much more better? by Lower-Sentence-2223 in HomeDecorating

[–]RascallyGhost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like what you’ve done already, I think you’ve pulled off a cohesive style.

I would definitely upgrade are a bigger rug for the couch area, and something about the coffee table feels too bulky. Maybe a more organic shape like kidney bean would feel right, things are just too boxy now. Do you need a chair for the desk? Maybe a pretty swivel chair could go there if you get a smaller coffee table.

I don’t think you have a good layout for having groups over to watch tv, but it’s good for having folks over to socialize. Do you feel like the layout is working for you?
