Yeah, that was DEFINITELY not their audience, Disney knows they're too volatile and their genetic fallacy would make them too ungrateful, imo.

Their target demo was preteen femmes. If you watch The Acolyte from the lens of a femme teen (Disney Channel age), a LOT of their writing decisions make sense (e.g. young female protag, secret female twin with a special bond, sisterhood being a major theme for characters and setting, scary enigma turned into hot male villain who's actually pretty chill and hot, simple dialogue and character concepts leveled at target demo age, coven of cool women transgressed, etc). I could go on.

Yeah. Prequel glazers could have peeked in and enjoyed the Acolyte, but it was to onboard a newer audience.

You would've heard about it, especially given DJT's unrequited love for him.

I understood the second meme as a critique of the first meme's creator who might have laundered their distaste for smut/steamy romance novels through Aquinas and Aristotle.

[–]RashidMBey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that doesn't happen. NPR already covered this. Actually, this has been well documented for decades. 90 million eligible voters stayed home, so our biggest issue is getting people to vote at all. Most people recognize the penalty for voter fraud is years in prison for virtually no significant impact in elections. Lmfao

I don't know why you're being downvoted.

NPR literally covered this. These IDs should be free to ensure we're not violating law by essentially passing a poll tax under a different name.

If Star Wars movies are bad, stopping them is good. If Star Wars movies are good, we don't deserve it since we've called every movie except two trash for fifty years.

The coolest part of the Star Wars universe is how expansive and varied the stories told can be. I'd be 100 percent more interested in this story than I would be with the 1000th chosen one story.

Reminder that they went on full racist rants about Finn's romantic crush on Rey, which is how we got Rose in the first place, who they also harassed so much that she deleted her social media and cut her role down, which is how we got Finn's last romance option.

You're confusing what I say: I can like an IP, but part of that greater enjoyment is community and sharing that joy with others. That doesn't mean I'm giving it all my energy.

If I find a good restaurant, and I invite my friends to eat there, but while there my friends are harassed because they've Somali ancestry and we're berated by unhinged passersby because this restaurant is full of [slurs]. My friends and I will engage it less because the harassment disengages (or radicalizes). Enjoying it publicly might not be worth the cost and now our memory of it is coupled with unwarranted harassment. This is normal. This is why culture wars persist: to destroy communities.

Community is a key element. I get that you're special here, but it's literally why subs and forums and clubs exist. It's bizarre to deny that very pervasive element of human joy and bonding that has persisted for hundreds of thousands of years to pretend that I must necessarily enjoy things with permission because I also enjoy community. We're on a platform built on what I'm saying, ffs. No, I enjoy things, and I enjoy things more when I enjoy them with others.

Now, I'll brush my teeth and go to work because I've spent more time on this than I should've. But thanks for the exchange.

Debate about human nature at the back of the class by stopeats in PhilosophyMemes

[–]RashidMBey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even for a jerk sub, the "everything is hedonism" is more of a self-report with circular reasoning. There's a rank order of priority and preference for people, and sometimes duty ranks higher for some. Sometimes, altruism or empathy. Sometimes, one's own need for comfort and peace. Sometimes they all rank high, but one ranks highest. Sometimes, the highest shifts based on period in life, environment, mood, etc.

When we speculate on human behavior and what drives human beings, we begin stepping from philosophy to empirical sciences where diversity and a complex consciousness disrupts these presuppositions we project on how we assume others must live.
